Looking for opinions on the CZ527 Varmint or other small centerfires

Is there a solution to the long Mag.? I know they are great guns but wondering how comfortable it would to carry with that Mag. Is there a flush Mag. available?

My solution to the long mags are the single shot adapters made by James Calhoon, they come in 2 different sizes to fit the 527 action. Flush mount of course. FS

Thanks for all the input CGNers! I had a chance to look at an American version of this rifle over the weekend and was very impressed. One will be coming home with me, hopefully sooner rather than later, but I think I'm going to go with a Varmint to get the 1 in 9 twist.

What mounts have been working for those who have this gun?

I just received a PM from a board member stating that his Varmint wouldn't group well with 69g bullets. The Varmints in 223 have a 1 in 9" twist while the others have a 1 in 12" twist.

I see myself using this as a target gun out to 300 yards or so, and a coyote gun if the opportunity presents itself. I was thinking the heavier bullets (55g +) would be good for 'yotes and some of the farther targets.

Would I be disadvantaged by a 1 in 12" twist? Does a 1 in 9" stabilize lighter bullets well?

Many thanks again!

The 'disadvantage' of the 1-in-12 twist will be minimal for the purposes you intend. Keep in mind that the heavier bullets (60+ gr) also tend to be longer, and some of them may not even fit in your magazine anyway. Both the 1-in-12 twist and 1-in-9 will have no trouble handling all of the typical coyote hunting bullets in the 50-60 gr range. My personal favourite is the 60 gr Vmax.

I was reading a post on Saubier recently about using these rifles for a base to build something different on. A barrel change is all that is needed in most cases. I will have to research it further as the 20 VarTarg continues to call my name.

James Calhoon has a couple of kits for rebarreling along with a bunch of accessories as well.
