Hey All

I really want an AR but with new baby etc etc etc have decided it's not going to be possible cash wise for the next several years. I bought a pistol and a 6BR this year and all money is going to go into feeding them for a couple of years at least.

But... I want to get "grandfathered" (if such a thing exists) and want to get a cheap lower so I technically have an AR. I won't build it, I'll buy an actual AR once I can afford ammo and will probably sell the lower to pass it on and get more people in the club. I have lots of friends in a similar situation; not too much money but a great interest.

So, that being said, what are the options? Cheapest I can find is Kodiak Outpost for $149. Preference for sponsors.

Thanks for your time,
Barry

Thats a great Idea for everyone to follow if they are not in the market just yet as the more people with a registered ar the better off in the fight to keep them we will be.

$149, I don't think you can get cheaper than that unless you get one of those 80% things. As for getting grandfathered I have heard it's almost impossible(in Alberta anyway) but if you can I would like to know how.

Agreed. I expend a lot of ammo getting friends out to the range and getting them interested in the hobby. With the proliferation of realistic video games and movies etc, a lot of guys have a general interest in guns.

They always have a smile on their face after blasting off a few rounds for the first time.

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the Kodiak Outpost ones.

Preference for sponsors.

You mean advertisers.

There is no difference between buying from a store that does not pay the fee to advertise or one that does.

If an advertiser offered specific deals for members only, then they could be thought of as a sponsor, because they support the membership.
Currently they only are here to increase their advertising base and increase revenue.

I have yet to see a Gun-Nut only special.
I belong to a Car Forum, I get discounts on a wide range of products and services when I contact them through the board. But not here.
I have saved hundreds on tires, brakes, radios , tinting, etc. Special deals only offered to members....why not here?

Sorry just had to clarify. Not a dig against any stores.

This is a good way to go. Put a good trigger in it eventually the a good upper when the cash comes around.

Have you considered going about it the other way and buying a Norc and selling the upper?

But... I want to get "grandfathered" (if such a thing exists) ....

Why do think it will be grandfathered? Lots of people have had their firearms seized and destroyed. The NDP and Liberals want to ban all handguns and semi-autos, I don't think that anyone will be "grandfathered". Best you could hope for is compensation when they show up at your door to seize it.

If you plan on selling this lower later then I really don't see the point in you getting one. They'll either be legal or illegal to own by the time you're ready and if you can't pony up the $700 for a complete Norc then you'll probably never be able to afford one.

I find that assumption insulting...

I have a fixed budget for shooting, and decide where it gets spent. This year, after getting the 6br and handgun, I decided to put it all into ammo so I actually use them, and don't just own safe queens.

After a couple of years, then I'll look at what to get next, and I want (right now anyway) that to be an AR.

As for grandfathering, it has happened before, so it MIGHT happen again. I'm OK with spending a couple of hundred on that chance. I understand it might not happen, but I know people who kick themselves for not getting grandfathered in before. $150 is cheap insurance.

All this being said, Kodiak Outpost doesn't have any in stock and won't for several months at least... Does anyone know of another supplier?

My apologies if you took offence. It seems like you're simply trying to get your foot in the door and the Norc is an excellent starting point for those looking for an affordable rifle.

Grandfathering only occurred at the start when the majority of rifles went prohib. Subsequent prohibs all resulted in confiscation (ie, uzi, spas12) without compensation I believe. More recently we have had people being told to turn in their rifles for destruction (16" Rem 870) and others being declared prohib like the T97. We'll have to wait for the court case to finish before we find out what happens to those but one thing is clear, they won't be grandfathered.

ETA: It's your money, spend it as you wish. Don't think the AR-15 is going anywhere soon (I hope).

5thats what they wanted to do for my G3 and AK, just drop them off no compensation. Needless to say that didn't happen.
