Just received my Cougar and after the initial inspection the finish on it is quite thin and really like the dark rich matte black finish on the Remington.

Have you guys done anything to your Grizzly / Cougar?

Or should I just leave the finish and wait until it wears out then re-finish it?

Any suggestions?

I re park and teflon coat my shotguns (have done 3 so far) and am planning on doing so with my m14 (if my damn krieger barrel ever comes in). I do my own, but Casey at tac ord in Newmarket can teflon coat or dura coat and does a standout job with a quick turnaround (usually)

Very nice!

You've got to tell me how to do that looks factory original!

In ranking of durability and scratch resistance: I have experience with all three. Sand blast before applying any of these

1. Cera-Coat is awesome. Its a ceramic spray that needs to be baked on.

2. Second on the list is Dura-Coat; its a great product from Lauer weaponry that I would recommend having a pro or experienced amateur apply.

3. Arma-Coat. Pure crap; it will chip off if you look at it hard enough.

Just my two cents.

I've got a grizzly and I personaly think the beat up look give a shotgun character. Mine's beaten to hell from doing breach loading drills. Just a thought.

I just purchased a whole bunch of armacoat from Murdoc and was gonna sandblast and repaint with it. You got me kind of worried now.

Where do you get cera-coat from?

Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply is the only place Ive ever gotten it from. They have pro staff that can apply it for you. ATRS will not use Armacoat on principal. They used it before and had too many issues with durability and customer complaints. ATRS only uses Ceracoat now and they tell me that it is annoyingly durable and must be milled off if you want to remove it.

Don't worry too much about the Armacoat you ordered. If you take care of your guns the finish will hold up. Remember there are guys on CGN that espouse the benefits of using KRYLON general use spray paint from Canadian Tire as the best paint out there that can hold up to wear and tear! Just depends on how hard you use your guns

I have had my Grizzly for a while now sent it off to Murdoc to get arma coated should have it back any day now.

Im in the same boat as you with my grizzly. Badboybeeson sells some epoxy base paint for $25 a can. From what I've heard its the best finish if you're on a budget and want to do it yourself. I'm probably going to go with that rather than spending the same on a refinish job than the firearm costs from the dealer.
