I have an opportunity to pick up a Weaver scope but it's one I'm not all that familiar with. It's a 3-9 Weaver and on the tube it's marked V9-1. Also it has parallax adjustment of 50yd. - 1000 yd. It doesn't appear to have been abused and looks to be in good shape. Questions, how good are they? What would be a fair price? Any other comments or opinions?

I have a V9 Classic (3-9x38.) It's a good scope. It would typically retail under $250 new, and might be found under $200 if you looked diligently and were patient. This is the modern production, alloy, made in Japan. I got mine used and if I recall correctly, I gave $120 for it and thought I was lucky.

But I'm not sure a V9-1 is exactly that. I have an old steel (made in U.S.A.) K4-1 which has a second, thinner, horizontal crosshair, which I understand to be a sort of rangefinding reticle. Does this V9-1 have that? And is it steel, from their made-in-the-U.S.A. era?

I neglected to mention, this one is made in the USA. I don't know how recent a production it is but the tube is steel, magnetic anyway, so I would imagine the it isn't alloy. The reticle is pretty well standard and not a range finding model, no additional thinner horizontal cross hair. I can pick it up for $135.oo.

What in the rifle scope market place can you get for $135.00 in a 3-9 that ain't made in China?
I have 2 of these, 1 with the objective and 1 without, I think they may have been called Sportsman. FS

That downside is also an upside. The old steel Weavers made in the U.S.A. are tough, probably tougher than any other 3-9x scope you will find for $135. It will probably last the rest of your life.
