Anyone know why the FN FAL was outlawed??

I didn't think it was restricted until 1983 or so. It seems to me that I bought one at Levers in the late '70s and sold it in the early '80s when there was word it was going to be restricted. I could be mistaken, tho, its getting to be a long time ago!

I used to work at Italian Sporting Goods on Commercial Drive in 1983. I know for a fact that they had an FAL in the back.

~~No idea why they banned this rifle or the G3 especially when I can by an
m14 from Marstar with the same capacity and calibre.

Because in the Janes guns recognition guide it mentions that the M-14 wasn't that great of a rifle (regardless of this argument is true or not) and had a nice, non-pistol gripped wood stocked rifle.

The FAL mentions that it was used by 90 countries, was the right arm of the free world, and the picture was a black plastic FN with a pistol grip

I don't remember precicely what they said about the G3 but the picture was similar to the FAL, black pistol gripped rifle.

I will still argue they used one of these recognition guides to write the rules, because they prohibited the HK G11 rifle, you know, that caseless 4.7mm one that they never put into production?

They just picked the scary ones and left the rest.

I know that the army uses the C7, and I understand the navy still uses them (FAL) in some capacity. BUT.... what happened to all th rest of the FN's ? Are they locked up or were they sold off to a 3rd world country?

so if it has a pistol grip it became prohibited? hmmmmm i got an idea, how about bying more m14's, bar's, 30m1 carbines, stens, finnish suomis in semi auto, gewher 43's, tokerev rifles svt 40 series, safn-49's, hakims, ljungmans( a personal favorite of mine with converted mg-15 mags to now let it shoot 25 rounds lol), and you might be able to get away with a bm-59 parts kit built on a modified m1 garand action! i might be wrong about a few of these, but they are rifles, and semi smg's that dont have pistol grips lol!!!

Just curious if anyone new the reason why the FN FAL was outlawed in canada? I'm only 25 and missed all that goings on. I realize I has "capabilty" to go full auto, but as far as that goes so does the M14. Anyway just curious, thanks

not all the fn fals were fully auto the brittish had a semi auto version that they used in the falklin islands war against argintina who
had the full auto ones
