Of course, Peacefrog would then be giving you the ammo, unless he has a manufacturer's licence, or else you would be conspiring to commit an offence, which would put a serious damper on your gun collecting days!
Sig Girl, I would advise purchasing a good (for which read the best you can afford) .22 pistol. I love shooting my .45's, and in my mind, they have a more pleasant recoil impulse than do 9mm's. I also get a hoot out of popping outrageous handloads out of a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt, and getting reminded of my mortality by the recoil from my .30 Herrett.
But, the essence of pistolcraft is marksmanship, and this is best learned without the distraction and masking of error induced by recoil. A few thousand disciplined rounds out of a .22, for less than a couple hundred rounds out of a centerfire, and then you will impress everyone by actually hitting your intended target when you do fire aimed pairs from a .45. To quote a one time World IPSC World Champion, as he was teaching a course in Edmonton, ".. Canadians are all hosers." He didn't mean it in a nice way. He meant that of the twenty or so of us attending his course, most of us could not hit an "A", on demand, 100 times out of 100, no matter how close, nor how slowly we fired.
Or, to quote a gunfight veteran of many years on the U.S.- Mexico border, "You can't miss fast enough to win a gunfight." He was a U.S National Champion pistol shot, a Border patrol demonstration trick shooter, and he routinely fell back on bullseye with a .22 to keep his basic marksmanship skills up to where they needed to be to survive a gun fight. If the serious guys benefit from a .22, us amateurs surely can.
