.22 Cause hearing damage?

I think the poster has a hearing problem that rounds off his words, I don't think he is a "Tard" but just another .22 enthusiast who wants to share what he know about those rounds. Or if you live in Ontario its "Ah-boat these rounds "

Watching this worthless youtube video makes me think .22s cause brain damage which this tard is proof of!

I don't see anything wrong with that video at all  It's just a guy sharing his opinion and knowledge on those rounds, and believe it or not .22's will and do damage your hearing. Apart from all the noise we're surrounded by each day the addition of hundreds if not thousands of rounds of .22LR will take its toll. Correct me if I'm wrong but the .22 puts out around 130 Decibels, a normal conversation is around 60. To put it this way, you can continue to shoot .22LR with or without hearing protection, or just shoot powder-less rounds, but at the end of the day hearing damage is irreversible.

The guy has a speech impediment due to hearing loss and he still puts himself out there on youtube......braver then most.

It's never impressed me much to see or hear people laugh or make fun of others with disabilities.

If you didn't like the video just move on.... s**tting on other people and their endeavors is lame and trying to gather a posse for a group dump is even more lame..... just my opinion.

Most hearing specialists and doctors agree that exposure to 85db+ can cause permanent damage. Most .22LR has a sonic break (crack) of between 90db and 120db some (stingers, mini-mags etc,) have been measured at 130db+. I am in the Audio/video industry and it baffles me how many people we'll see that won't wear hearing protection while at rock shows, I suppose those people wouldn't bother while they're shooting either. No big deal, they're only hurting themselves.

Yeah, I went to rock shows when I was a teenager/early 20's and I didn't even consider hearing protection, and virtually no one else was wearing protection either that I can remember.
It's been a long time since I been to a concert, maybe that's changed since I was a youngin', hopefully :)

you do enough of anything at high decibel levels and you'll cause permanent hearing loss- the only way to check for it is to see an audiologist - and it's also the FREQUENCY that counts- back in the 60's 70's , when we did a lot of bass( you FELT IT more than heard it) - we can still hear those tones- it's the really high end that causes the damage-moreover, as you get older, the tympanic membrane gets stiffer, and you don't hear so well

:agree: +1

I've posted before about the Aguila SSS - long story short - they are not available in Canada, bummer. As for the videographer, I make no apologies for my comments, a .22 20grain would not cause hearing damage no matter how hard you try. And the repetition in the video is what I found to be hilarious, not the speech impediment.....

If anybody knows where I can get a brick of Aguila SSS, please do tell.

I don't understand the haters of this video????????

Actually found the video informative. I plan to use subsonic rounds in a new 10/22 project I am working on. With the Dlask 12.5" barrel I expect the report to be significantly louder and would like to avoid hearing loss while gopher shooting.

Definatly gonna give that ammo a try.

True Todd.
You know what's even more baffling in this age of "safety" is that live concerts are allowed to put out that much volume! The least they could to is make foam ear plugs available for anyone that wants them and post some warning signs.
I love live music but a lot depends on the soundmen to get the levels right and in some venues it can be challenging to get a good feel without cranking it to obnoxious levels!
I try and remember to bring some plugs but have also resorted to napkins when it's real bad and I don't have plugs....

i fail to see how .22's could have the potential to cause hearing damage - the 'guy' in the youtube video clearly states he has a hearing problem from a physical altercation; not from discharging .22 LRs............?? Further to that i posted it cause its a hilarious review of the ammunition and was commenting on the review which incorporated the term, tard.

The lowly .22 LR can be plenty loud with a short barrel, an extreme example is my fathers 12.6 prohib revolver. Its got a 2" barrel and incredibly loud, on the other hand the same round out of a 26" barreled Savage single shot is very mild.

My concern is while hunting gophers. In this situation hearing protection is not practical, many times in the tall grass it is their squeaks and warning calls that show me were to look for the critters. On a good day you can go through over 500 rounds so there is certainly potential for hearing loss.

Are you talking about the Aguila? If so, you know where to get it?

I am guessing the best chance is at the Calgary Gun Show in Easter, a buddy got some of the SSS ammo at a show, but paid a hefty premium for them. Really dont expect to find any "in stock" locally but will check around. Remington subsonic is available locally so I will try that first.

Drawblood - thank you......

surfclod - possibly in an indoor setting maybe the decibles would approach an irritable level. In a handgun? I wouldnt know and couldnt say. In a rifle outside, non-issue.

I was told to watch for Aguila's at the shows, still pretty scarce to get. Apparently, you can buy Aguila's at Cabella's in the states and the local gun shop told me u can bring back up to 5000rnds of anything you are legal to have. Guess where I'm going - lol - I checked Cabella's US site and they sell for $47.99 a brick, so i wont be getting 5000 of them, but definitely a couple to try and if there good maybe for grouse hunting this fall. If You come across them before me, post it, im interested in hearing what ppl think of them.

I'm pretty sure buying ammo down south and bringing it home is no longer a good idea.

Why don't you just by some CB's CCI or Remington?
