5.56 CSA with fab furniture, scoped...PICS!

When I picked up my CSA in October, I never really intended to mod it all that much. Then in January, I called up wolverine and ordered the receiver scope mount intended for these rifles, then came the fab goodness. Hopefully the pics turn out...

The fab stuff was a bit of a pain to install. Upper hand guard, no issue. Lower hand guard required some filing on the rear inside edge to get it to squeeze in. The one pic shows the slight gap between receiver and hand guard. The skeleton stock was a major PITA to remove. Held in by a 6mm allen bolt from the inside of the receiver and torqued to ungodly specs, it only came out after breaking a 1/4" drive ratchet and eventually shearing the bolt itself. The only other minor issue was with the new pistol grip. The long, hollow battery/whatever compartment meant the factory bolt was much too long. easy fix was to just add washers until the bolt no longer protruded into the receiver (bye bye battery compartment) Once finished, there was no play whatsoever with hand guards, butt stock or pistol grip.

The receiver mount from wolverine seems to be a solid unit, and once tightened down, feels very solid and places the rail over the bore nicely (there may be an offset of maybe a mm or two, its hard to tell, and I couldn't get a good pic). For now, I slapped on an old burris 3-9 I had in some millet rings. Hopefully hitting a range this weekend to see how she shoots!:cool:

edit: there does seem to be an issue with eye relief. Due to the short rail and location of the turrets on this burris, even with stock fully extended I am having to lean my head back to get a good sight picture...keeping that in mind when I eventually search for a new optic
 
Iron sights are a no-go with the shell deflector, the scope is quite high. Using medium rings for now, but low wouldn't drop it enough to help either. I haven't shot it since the scope has been mounted, hopefully hitting a range this weekend to get it zeroed

EDIT: I stand corrected, the irons can be used despite the shell deflector

hindsight is 20/20 haha. As well, I'd like to be able to use the irons comfortably if/whenever I remove the scope, its difficult enough with my melon with the stock as it is
 
You should be able to buy a very short metric phillips head bolt for your grip at the hardware store and still use the battery compartment. Some FAB grips come with this bolt. I used a star lock washer to hold the bolt in tightly. You will need to take your original grip screw and/ or grip nut to the hardware store for a match.
 
The only range that I was sure offered walk-ins was phoenix, so I went and got it zeroed at 50m for now. It shot into an inch no problem, but I picked up a membership for sherwood park today so I can shoot some groupings at 100 ASAP. So far, I'll be testing MFS 55gr FMJ and Winchester 64gr powerpoint

to comply with our asshat laws down here it will have to have atleast a 16 inch barrel, unless it is to be registered as a short bareled rifle, wich can be done for the price of $200 extra dollars for the tax stamp from the federal governments assinine batf!!!!! and then once you send in the 200 bucks, you have to wait till they send you forms, then you have to get the loacal cheif law enforcement officer in your area to sighn off on it, and have finger prints taken, then these get sent back to the feds, who do everything short of an anal probe, and then they decide if they want you to own it or not! lots of bs to get something that for all intents and purposes is not much different from the original version!!!!

man i feel for you poor folks downtrodden down there , i might have to go to the range this week with my 11" FSN for you all , LOL !!!!

i cant wait to get my grubby hands on the 7.5" csa in the spring. hehehe.

HAHAHA, but once he has it approved he can shoot it anywhere he wants...along side his AR and short barrelled(prohibited) pistol, shooting ammo he bought for half the price we would pay...i would trade for their laws anyday....

and they are in debt way past their #######s, and the state is going to be asking for a bailout soon from the feds!!! if the feds give kalifornia or newyork, or illinois, or new jersey, a damned bail out i will no longer pay taxes!!!!
