I was looking at the possibility of running Bryan Litz's Point Mass Ballistics Solver on a portable device such as an HP iPAQ, but as far as I can tell the pocket PCs don't run Java and also tend to be expensive or obsolete unless you can find a good used one.

I found another program called Shooter ( http://sean.kndy.net/shooter/ ) that looks pretty powerful and runs on the Google android OS, so I started checking out android devices and found these 7" tablet PCs.

First of all, has anyone used either the Shooter ballistics program or one of these new fangled android tablets, or preferably both?

Am I correct in assuming that you don't need internet access to use the calculator out in the field?

Seems like it would be a fairly slick setup for less than 150 bucks. Any thoughts?

I use Shooter on my Android phone and I love it, great program.

You don't need internet access to run it.

x2

I used it to drop a coyote at 910 yards new years eve. I'm running it on a Samsung Galaxy S but I believe I will switch back to Knight Armament's Bullet Flight. The only reason I plan to switch back is because I dropped my phone in the snow, and the ipod is 4x cheaper to replace.

The only downside to the program I have found is the velocity is capped at 4500 fps.

I run the same thing on my iPhone. Top-notch app and the updates keep making it better and better.

Also check out iSnipe which is made by a member here on the forum (bcode).

Can't really beat iOS for the variety of quality software.
