Marlin,bullseye on stock?

When I installed sling swivels on my 336, I drilled that bullseye dead centre.
Oh well. I went on to take 11 deer with that rifle, so I think it forgave me.

I thought it was for a swivel stud too, but my 1894 had one installed in the right place so it never fell under the knife.
It was only after doing some reading I realized I'm an idiot.

I was told once that the stud was in the wrong place because it wasn't in the bullseye.

They still do. Remington removed them from at least the 39a's for a bit but quickly replaced them after numerous complaints from the marlin faithful. Mine has the missing bulls eye that I didn't notice in the gun shop until i got it home. I'm hoping this adds to it's worth some time down the road,:D not that I'm going to sell it.
