The tape will tell... I had an experience this fall with a guy around bragging about his 170+ whitetail. I'd never heard of a 4 point going that big before. Not to say it can't happen, but less likely. I taped it out at 145. Still a respectable buck, but just goes to show that there are a lot of people who don't know how the scoring system works.
On the other hand, I do know of a big non typical whitetail taken this fall. Easily over 220, but it hasn't been officially scored yet. It was taken in archery and is still covered in velvet. I've not seen it yet in person, but the pictures are impressive.
I agree. The tines on the Hansen buck are almost double the length of those on this deer and that makes a lot of difference in inches!! It will be nice to get a semi-unofficial score on this deer though!! I would have taken a pop at this one in any case! Great deer!!Tip to tip spread and mass both top Milo's, but the tine length just isn't there.
It wasn't shot during a legal season so it can't be considered for Boone & Crockett from what I've been told. Also by the looks of the pic his main beams won't be long enough to not have a deduction on the inside spread.
Bearkilr I'm with you on the score for sure. This deer was shot with a .22 cal which is not a legal caliber for big game in Sask. Because it's not legal in Sask it will not qualify for the books regardless.
