Not that i would ever do it, I'm just trying to understand the mechanics.
What would happen if you took the gas piston&extension out and fired? im guessing no casing ejection? then you would have to pull the bolt back again?

Yes it turns it into a single shot.People do this to reloadeable brass.Much easier to pull bolt back and collect the brass than trying to find it 2o yards away.;)

Guess just taking the pistons out is enough. No need to take out the extention. I wonder if u take the gas tube out. Would it act as a muzzle brake as gas coming out from the port backwards. Lol or would I get a load of hot gas into my eyes. Haha gotta try it next time.

i have yugo, sks that i do that with all the time! i just turn the gas port off, and it becomes a straight pull lol!!! gets on average using cheap russkie ammo an extra 200 feet per second over the chronograph doing that too lol!!!

seems weird that it would get higher velocity. wouldnt the pressure from the piston put more force on the bullet?

I guess with the bolt closed. 100 percent of the energy exit out the barrel and not leaked in the action. U do see burnt powder all around the action after a shooting session

The Yugo has a gas shut off for firing rifle grenades.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

yes it has a gas shutoff for firing rifle grenades, im told that the yugoslavian army when there was such a thing also had their recruits use the gas shut off valve durring training, so as to better work on their marksmanship, instead of rapid firing! in that respect it is very much like a krag jorgensen rifle, with the exception that the krag had a magazine cut off lever wich permited you to fire one shot at a time, and not relly on the rounds in the krags magazine! hell if you ask me the krag was almost the assault rifle of its day, it for sure was one of the most fast loading ones in its time, all you had to do was flip the magazine cover open and dump a handfull of rounds in, then slap the cover closed, and the spring then added pushing force to the rounds to feed them into the rifle! all you had to do after that was run the bolt, aim and fire! then repeat as necessary!
