Grabbed a CZ858 II at Al Flaherty's last month,

finally got out to a range to shoot it. I just joined Silverdale Club in Grimsby ON, seems like a pretty dope place with two action ranges, two clays and 50, 100 and 200 yard.

Took down the gun, removed excess oil and gave it some dry lube in the action and Remoil in the bore while I was waiting to shoot her.

I was wondering if I'd get a lemon or a beaut, having heard of the issues some experience. The finish is nice oven paint which I actually like and the beaver barf has a nice vintage wear to it. Mechanicals were tight.

It was - 17 that day and our noses and toes were frozen none the less my GF and I popped off 60 rounds of surplus without a hitch of any kind. Also we were getting some nice 5" groups, sure only 50 yards but when your eyeballs are frozen with tears and you're shivering I think that's pretty good.

On a nice day I think we'd be in the 2" with the irons.

The action was really a joy, the pop is oh so satisfying and the take down/cleaning is a breeze. I cleaned after the 60 rounds but looks like you could go 500 in between without too much buildup.

After the experience Im dead set on a CSA11.5" or FSk carbine. Any advice on which way to go there is much appreciated!

I also just got my first restricted short arm, this lovely shiny SS CZ 75B.

Can't wait to pop it off but I gotta sort out some ATT s**t before it can leave the house. Is having to take a course from the range mandatory in obtaining your ATT? They seem to think so...

Anyways, Im stoked on 2011, found a great private spot to go fishing, turkeys, plinking and duck.
 
Congrats on the CZ-858! Silverdale is supposed to be a really nice club. If I wasnt in the midst of my probationary shoots at another club, I would definitely be all over that.

There have been a few people on here that have torture tested these guns per-say. They can stay dirty past 500 rounds for sure. When you start reaching 700 or so rounds, you may run into a few failures. Otherwise, treat it like an AK.

CSA or FSN-01K is a very tough choice. I am in the midst of transfering a CSA 11.75". I got it because the FSN was sold out, but it has started to grow on me for a couple reasons.

1. It comes parkerized and then finished with matte black paint, unlike the purple bluing of the FSN.

2. Comes with a detent on the front sight for muzzle attachments, unlike the FSN.

3. The two mags that come with the firearm are painted to match. (I believe)


The FSN does have:

1. A shorter barrel. 11.75" vs 11"

2. Cleaner machining

3. Unique gas block front sight

4. Four magazines instead of two from CSA

4. $100 cheaper


The rest is up to you.
 
If it's your first time shooting the CZ with surplus, I'd just caution that you clean out the bore and areas around the piston that get exposure to gases with a water based cleaner. I'd also recommend re-inspecting the rifle a few days after the cleaning to make sure that it left no corrosive salts on the metal.

Lots of people clean theirs out with windex, which is water based and dries quickly from the ammonia that's in it. There are other threads that go into dealing with corrosive ammo in greater detail and are worth checking out.

Perhaps I'll see you at the range when the weather gets nicer!

x2 on the windex, and having seen both the fsn and the csa carbines, i chose to order a csa 11.5". I would say the machining is equally clean on both (that is vastly cleaner than the cz's) They are both aftermarket production for the civilian market as opposed to off the military assembly line. The only real bummer with the CSA is the 2 mags instead of four thing, it doesnt make sense especially given the price, but they are nicely painted to match the carbine. I'd say go with the CSA , in my opinion the paint will outlast the blueing of the FSN's, and the muzzle attachment issue is pretty big, beauty of a CZ 75 brother
 
Congrats on the CZ's. If you would have bought only one, there may still have been hope for you ... but since you bought two, I am afraid that you probably have contracted a very serious, contagious illness that will cost you a lot of money!
 
i for one prefer differences amount the VZ58 family , if there are indentical then there isnt any reason to collect them all .

approx 18 means , legal to 18.99 .

cos i dont own one and i couldnt find the published length , if you seen it somewhere please link ... thanks

I know im being annoying (dont mean to be) , but the barrel HAS to be AT LEAST 18.5" for this rifle to be non-restricted. We KNOW that it is, in fact, non-restricted. This means that the barrel is at least 18.5 inches long, so listing it as "approx 18.5" " would be more suitable and less confusing, IMO. :)
