Hey my names Adam, I've been interested in shooting for years and recently decided to buckle down and get my license.. I just received my RPAL and am debating on what my first gun will be.. Any tips or suggestions on good ranges/crown land would be great,
thanks!
Adam

Hey Adam, welcome aboard! I am in Etobicoke. There are a few ranges that are within reasonable distance. A lot depends on your budget and the type of guns you plan to shoot. As well, do you want indoor or outdoor?

Some suggestions: Orono (near Oshawa, and the range I am joining) The Grange near Stoufville (indoor, handgun and rimfire only) Silverdale (near St. Catherines, outdoor)

There are others and I'm sure other members can give you mroe specifics once we know what you are looking for :)

Cheers!

Thanks for the help!
I'm currently looking at some form of non-restricted rifle as my first gun as it becomes less hassle to get me into the sport and into the routine before worrying about ATT. I'm not sure which ranges ban surplus ammo and which do not so I'll have to check out Orono.

I'm trying to keep the rifle under a thousand and the two things that have caught my eye were the CZ858 or an M305, simply because of the surplus ammo involved (as long as I can still go to ranges)

Any suggestions for a first firearm would be greatly appreciated.

Adam, check out the Red Rifles forum. Tons of info on the SKS and CZ. Both are great choices and won't blow the budget. I don't think Surplus ammo is an issue at Orono but perhaps a member can confirm. (I won't be one until Saturday..lol)

Thanks everyone!

Talked to my buddy and looks like I'll be getting a norinco sks off him with only 60 shots through it, picked up my gun case and trigger lock yesterday. I'll post pictures when we do the transfer and I get it home.

the grange/target sports does allow .223 and .308 HOWEVER they need to be frangible rounds which can only be purchased and used at the range. any you don't shoot stays with them until you come back.

my first rifle was a Savage markII TRR as it was on sale and looks bad ass :) also cheap to shoot since it's a .22LR

Hey adam, welcome, I see some ppl have suggested the grange. If you pick this range good choice, we have ipsc tuesdays 7-9 and I run idpa every wednesday there. Coming soon I believe thursdays they are having zombie shoots with .22 and shotgun only (non-restricted's). If you get into action shooting feel free to come by. If your planing on joining Orno outdoors steve runs the idpa there. We r very good friends and would love to show you the ropes if you want to play.
