Replaced the FH on my Norinco with a USGI NM part. If I tighten the castle nut to where I think it's tight enough, the locking setscrew is positioned between two notches in the castle nut. If I back it off slightly to the previous notch, I can feel a bit of wobble in the FH. I assume this is not a good thing. I'm thinking I can peen the slots in the barrel to tighten the fit, rather than trying to reef on the castle nut pliers to try and get it to align with the next notch. Suggestions ????

give the castle nut a couple of rubs with a file. It's a fine thread so that should be all it needs. You may want to try backing the nut off and snugging it up 2 or 3 times first, that will sometimes give the extra movement you need. I wouldn't peen the keyways. a castle nut can be replaced cheap.

Taking it to the next notch strikes me as by far the smartest choice. If it's being stubborn, make sure everything is clean and there are no burrs, out-of-round spots or remnants of the spot weld that held the original in place that may be interfering with things. If it's being impossible, removing a bit of material may indeed be the way to go. Don't mess it up by peening, and definitely don't leave it loose.
The only thing that maybe should get the blue locktite is the castle nut retention screw (A.K.A. Set Screw). Shown here in the picture as 6-40;
But ALWAYS make sure it get's screwed into the deep part of the groves on the castle nut and not just any were untill it's tight.

Success !! Took the FH off again, thoroughly cleaned everything, cleaned up the face of the castle nut with some fine-grit emery cloth, and was able to get the nut to index correctly onto the next slot. No more wobble
