insert sks mag with bolt closed?

I found this "how-to" where a guy mods his sks so he can insert a removable mag on a closed bolt

Im wondering if anyone here has tried this sort of thing or if you think modding the bolt to do this is a bad idea?

Seems simple enough. Just slots in the bolt that the lips on the mag slide into. Worst case you need a new bolt which shouldnt be hard to find or expensive. Go for it.

I have done it to several SKS bolts. Easy to do, pretty had to mess up and works really well.

or if youre not inclined or are scared to do the mod yourself, tapco nakes a replacement bolt for the sks, that allready allows you to use detachable mags, without having to open the bolt to remove the mag!!!! last i checked it was $100 american, so i dont know what the canadian ammount would be!

a permit is needed to export a bolt out of the US.

your SKS-D should already have a modified bolt.

You are right. If Tapco makes it and it conforms to Canadian laws we can get it in Canada through Canadian dealers. What you will find in Canada is pure paranoia and a lot of misinformation on what you can purchase from the USA and what you can not.

i was referring to importing a sks bolt , if thats is incorrect then i would like you to correct the misinfomation .

i have the normal Norinco sks type 56. i purchased a tapco 5rd detachable mag from (risk of listing non supporting dealer) Fabsports.ca and they fit right in. only problem was that the lip on the bolt which holds the mag. was interfereing with the bolt operation against the mag...so i did the drop free mod. and this 1. solved the non smooth bolt operation 2. allowed me to drop the mag with the bolt closed....

definately a worthy mod to do....im interested to know if the sks-D bolt would fit directly into the type 56?

all SKS-D bolts were modified from a type 56 so the answer is yes.
