Magpul ASAP - do I really need the tiny metal piece?

Got a magpul ASAP toady but looks it only has the plate and missing the two tiny metal pieces. Searched around but still couldn't figure out, Do I really need the tiny thing? Do I have to order it from Magpul or is there workaround? Can anyone shed some light here.

If I recall those small pieces are what lock the plate in place (one for commercial the other would be for milspec tubes). So you do need them (or at least one of them depending on what you have...).

YES. This is what locks the ASAP to the tube since it doesn't install the same as a regular retainer plate. You need the shorter piece (0.25") if you have a mil-spec tube; the longer one (0.275") if you have a commercial one.
