hello gunnutz, I recently just booked into a BB course in may and I need to find a rig for a sig 1911 and a sig 226, any idea's where I can get a belt rig, holsters and mag pouches for IPSC and IDPA purposes, I have shoulder holsters, and drop leg serpa's but dont want to put them on a belt. Anybody help me out on what they use and where to get it.
Cheers

depends where are you located at? if Edmonton then Phoenix, P&D and maybe Wild West. if Calgary then TSE or 911Supply. Mail Order just check out the sponsors at the top, Freedom Ventures, CFRAM, Double Tap sports are very IPSC related and do mail order. If you are down Lethbridge way give me a shot and i can help you out as well.

My suggestion is to get the Bladetech DOH for the BB course, along with a decent 2 piece belt.

It works well and is prefered by many. If you decide later it's not your cup of tea, it's not so expensive that you'll regret it, and can get much of your costs back if you sell it.

For the BB course, you want simple, not fussy.

Freedom Ventures (listed above) sells the Itac Defense holsters.

They seem to be getting very good reviews, and the prices aren't bad.

I suggest Kydex construction, strong side, straight drop, and either Comp-Tac or Ky-Tac.

And before you buy anything, read the IPSC and IDPA rules.

Nice video thanks.

I'll never be in a situation that would gum up a Serpa with Snow/Sand/Dirt, but I have heard that as your trigger finger is involved in releasing the firearm, there is potential (although slim) to have an accident.

I'll keep tabs on this thread and look into the Safariland 6000 series.

Listen to Walter's response. You want experience, it doesn't get much better. He is the provincial training officer for IPSC Alberta.

Bladetech dropped offset holster
Safariland single competition mag pouches
CR speed belt

I run this for all my Production guns. If I am shooting Standard or Open then I change to a Ghost Holster but the rest remains the same.

All the other recommendations come from experience. I'm just starting. Take their advice. For example, my instructor recommended the BladeTech DOH.

I'll be using a BlackHawk Serpa holster (I already had) for a BB course in a few weeks. During dry fire practice I have to say the Serpa works really well. Trigger finger seems to naturally stay out of trouble. If it doesn't make the grade during the course I will be sure to leave a comment here. Of course if I don't make the grade I will not blame the holster.

I was sad to see it fail in the video when snow jammed it. As he said in the video I think that would also happen with other types of debris packed in there. Too bad. I wonder if a strong, flexible rubber membrane over the button area would probably solve it. It would allow the press to disengage the lock without letting debris jam it directly. But that would raise cost of goods and manufacturing. Got any spare balloons ;)

Yeah, I'm borrowing one right now and I quite like it, so I might just stick with it.

I look forward to your comments after BB.

Thanks.

All this BS with accidental discharges with the serpa's is just that, BS. When I draw my Glock my finger is positioned right on the frame, where it should be. If anything, it felt unnatural to try and get my finger to go into the trigger guard when drawing. If you lack the motor skills to draw form a serpa safely then you shouldn't be allowed to holster anything. It really does amaze me that this even came up as an issue.

From my little experience, I fully agree.

I'm pretty happy with how the Serpa feels and operates.

I just picked up a blade-tech holster for my 92fs and it seems very stiff getting the gun in and out. Is this normal or something that goes away with time? I left it in the holster for a few hours and when I took it out it scuffed up the trigger guard a bit.
