I recently received a 30-06 Sako AV with a fiberglass stock, and I'm trying to find out if the stock is a factory Sako stock or aftermarket. From all appearances, the rifle is unfired, so my guess is that the stock is factory, but I wanted to confirm with others who have owned similar rifles.

From the pictures can you tell who manufactured the stock, or is there a makers mark that I should look for?

Thanks!

Congratulations! What you have there is a Sako Fibreclass. Sako made these rifles with a McMillan stock.

Sako made these rifles in the 1990's and I have one also.

They are fine shooters and very fine quality.

One of the nicest Sako's to leave the factory, IMO

This is the second Sako that I've owned and I must say that I prefer the older actions. My first Sako was a stainless 75, which was nice, but didn't have a strong appeal to me --- I also couldn't get over paying that kind of money for a rifle with an injection-molded stock, no matter the quality.

This AV action is amazing to cycle and locks up like a vault. The quality of the machining and the finish is also something that I've not seen on many other rifles. The only comparable rifle that I have is an older Tikka M65 Deluxe, which is quite different with a wood stock, iron sights, and detachable magazine.

In either case, those Finns sure know how to make a nice rifle. I must admit that I'm rather torn trying to convince myself to use the Sako and allow it to acquire the marks of a hunted rifle. One of the reasons that I like my Tikka is that it came to me from an old-time hunter, and while it was well-cared for, it was not pristine. I've felt no guilt taking it out in our wet wilderness.

I know the Sako with its fiberglass stock is made for the west coast climate, and as previous poster said, it's a highly functional rifle, but damn them for making it look so nice :)

Mine started out as a Sako AV Fiberclass in 7mm Rem Mag built in 89. Was an awesome rifle but after it needed a new barrel I got carried away and turned it into a tactical rifle.

Does it have a Sako marked butt pad?..the Fibreclass's I've seen did not have a cheek piece.

The AV is a great action, only thing better is an L61R....:D

It dates to about '91-'92 according to Sako.

I just purchased the same rifle in /06 same condition as yours, it has a Sako pad and they were only manufactured from 85/89. The action is a l61r with a slightly different bolt shroud and a slightly different length tang. Go to Sako Collectors they have all kinds of info. It is a Mc Millan stock.

Mine also has cheek piece and Rembo is correct its fiberclass not fiberglass.

It is an original - it looks like my .375 HH that David Henry reamed into an AI version - one my favorite hunting rifles (and do please use it for hunting - they are wonderful)

Nice rifle!...I have an AV in .300 win mag with a gorgeous piece of wood on it, too nice to take into the bush...at least yours has the mcmillan on it, nice looking and durable too! Someone should really start a Sako AV #### thread....

My hunting partner has the same rifle in 25-06. It will shoot into 1/2" MOA
day in, day out. The best I can wring out of my A111 deluxe .270(above) is
3/4".

Yeah I used mine in MB for a few seasons but I did get a Savage with a det. mag to use and have been keeping the Sako in the vault.

They are fantastic rifles and I toyed with selling it but my hunting buddy keeps talking me out of it!
