Aftermarket CZ 858 Parts - Some Fitting Required

Well, I picked up a CZ 858 rifle and it's a great semi-auto, so I figured that I'd start to put on a few aftermarket parts to give it a new level of bad-assery.

First, I picked up an older set of NEA handguards, new, and found them very tight to install. I had to shave the tiniest amount off of the lower handguard where the pin holds it in, in order to get it to fit.

The upper handguard took some persuading to get on and the fit is tight, so there's no way that I'll be disassembling it without something to move that pin out. I'm very hesitant to remove material from this piece, as I'm not sure how tight it's supposed to be, since I'll be mounting an optic on it.

Anyone know if the pin is supposed to push out, or is it supposed to be on tighter than virgin?

I also picked up a Dlask Extended Mag release and the hole for the pin was way out of spec. I had to ream it out in order to get it to fit, but once done, it fit perfectly.

A Fab Arms grip will go on next, as soon as I remember to pick up a wrench long enough to reach the bolt. This is stupid, because I ran into this problem switching out an AR grip, but made do with tools on hand and forgot about it. lol

So, anyone else have fitting issues? Is it normal?

I'd post pics, but my camera is toast and I don't think the phone will get the resolution I need here.

Don't #### with the upper handguard, it will wear in. Use a punch to move the pin if you have to.

There's nothing abnormal about your experience. Between the paint and the wide variation in individual rifle dimensions it's the way it goes.

And there we go!

Thanks Stevo! That's exactly what I thought.

I was kind of suprised that the Dlask mag release would be so out of spec, but I seem to remember having some out of spec parts from them before. No big deal to fix that though.

I guess I'll mount the Bushnell and head to the range with her this weekend to sight it in.

Then all I need is the stock adapter and some Magpul goodness.

I had fitment issues with the front lower handguard, the dowel pin would not go through the hole, I just banged it in with a small hammer. I dont know how the fvck I am going to get it off, probably a punch and hammer. It is virgin tight is right. But seems like a normal experience.

Yeah, the NEA parts didn't seem to be horribly out, the lower handguard only needed to have a very, very small amount of material removed to get it on. I kind of figured the upper handguard was supposed to be tight though, but I wanted to be sure.

Rifle looks all kinds of bad-a$$ now, though! lol

This thread sucks. It sounds like your rifle is the problem and not the aftermarket parks.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Quit trolling my thread.

My NEA upper handguard must have the pin punched out whenever I want to disassemble it. It also requires a lot of force to get it back on. It's perfect like that. The tighter the better.

Variation seems to be the greatest constant.

Took some fitting to get all my parts on, but I am immensely happy to have put it together.

I'm just waiting to get an AR stock on mine and an AFG. I keep wanting to put my thumb over the top of the handguard and it blocks the sights. I figure the AFG will help with the muscle memory. I've also got a Crusader Brake on the way from Neit Arms.

I managed to damage the lower dowel pin and will need another one. Maybe I will fabricate one at work. The one that comes with the Nea handguards is a little cheap, because it is a hollow dowel rather then the factory solid pin. I damaged both of them. Stupid dumb I am sometimes. I was alittle too anxious to get it all together though. When I get home I will post a pic(I am at work). It would be cool if you could post a picture of yours as well. I just put a magpul ctr stock on and it looks badassery.

Hey, how about some pics when you are all done? Sounds like an interesting project and I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see it when it's finished. ;)

You bet. There will be pics, indeed.

Right now it looks funny, because it has no grip on it, kind of like a weird grease gun.

I think that NEA has made the VZ series just almost as modular as the AR platform.

I think when I'm done, I might splurge on some Armacoating........or some Krylon. lol

This is mine as she stands right now. The optics will be changed shortly when I decide what setup to use. Either an aimpoint h1 or something else? I dont know if I should stay with the cantilever setup(current) or mount the aimpoint to the upper handguard?. I dont really like the look of it right now and the cheap bushnell is not ranged in , just there for the photo so I can see what works or not.

Just a tip for you guys with the NEA upper. I found it very hard to get back on once I removed it. To solve this problem once I finally got it back on, I scored the front ears of the mount with a small screwdriver, where they mate with the gas block. That gives you a visual indicator of where to align the mount so that you are able to slide the pin back in easily when re-installing it. Makes it much faster to deal with.

I use a small rubber hammer and a brass punch to align the holes when reinstalling. Using a set-screw in the left side "ear" makes sure it's lined up height-wise when tapping it into place.
