Nutnfancy SHOT Show 2011: Beretta Set to Embarrass ACR!

Beretta swoops in from left field with the seemingly excellent ARX160 tactical carbine, set to come ashore sometime in the future. Here's a first look at this impressive little 6.5 lb carbine lb (about time someone other than Kel-Tec got the weight right!). Here you will see us check out some of its cool features: seriously quick-change barrels (which have medium profile), inside-trigger-guard bolt release, no tool takedown, on-the-fly ambi bolt handle and ejection selection (wow), ambi safety, constant-engagement piston (no carrier tilt here), full railing, and excellent balance and trigger. Granted this is a first look and the proof lies in the shooting to discover the real ergos, accuracy, and durability. But all things are looking up with the impressive ARX160, especially its slated $1500-$1700 street price (subject to change). That puts it in the same value ballpark as a Ruger SR-556. In terms of weight, simplicity of design, and value it seems like it could deliver all the things the ACR and SCAR (value) series have not. Downsides might be the thicker handguard, the slim pistol grip, and limited adjustable stock; all of which might change in the production version. The ARX160 could be a big win for Beretta. Also we manage to get the admission that a .22 ARX version may be on the way as well. In the vid and here, I admonish Beretta to look carefully at the Sig 522 on how to make such a gun reliable with most ammo; dual stainless rails on which a highly polished bolt rides are advisable. Prior to the lengthy ARX distraction we manage to zone in on some other Beretta high points as well. With PFIDude in tow and booth host Ben Cook, we look at the PX4 Storm (Special Duty .45 ACP # JXF5F45 version too), the Beretta 96A1. 40, the U22 Neos, and its cool Carbine kit. Expect an entertaining discussion where we don't take ourselves too seriously but we get serious on the guns. Ben is another TNP Gold Star host who rolled with perfection with the Nutnfancy style...big thanks for his time and sense of humor. Beretta fans rejoice...TNP in the house! ///////////////////////// Music: Kevin MacLeod

Bwhaaaa! Trust Remington to f*ck up a perfectly well designed gun with delays and a stupid price (Massada). If the vid is anything to go by Beretta takes the cake both in terms of features and price. As said in a previous thread Remington is the kiss of death for anything they touch.

Does the carrier still run on polymer rails on the receiver?

No sense in dreaming until Beretta actually has plans for civilian sales.

That is fantastic.

Great review by Nutnfancy as always.

I haven't been this excited about a new rifle for some time, but this one gives me wood...

Very slick.

Too bad they're talking 2012 for possible US civilian launch, which means even longer for us up here...

Wow, I'm not a real nutnfancy fan, but you seem to really dislike him! (Ur right though...)
Too many people think he's some sort of authority on firearms. His knowledge is pretty average. I won't evem get into the lack of focus and "dude, sweet" crap.

Carrier tilt is not caused by a short stroke piston, nor is it solved by a long stroke piston. Carrier tilt is caused by a force applied off the axis of support. The ARX160 doesn't have carrier tilt because it has guide rails and was designed to run a piston.

Carrier tilt is a retro-fit piston AR15 issue only.

What the hell is a "constant contact piston"? Does he mean long stroke?

I think I'll start making up my own terms now to sound smart.

Looking at the parts it looks like a long stoke system where the piston is not attached to the bolt group but is a separate part that is in constant contact.

As for making up your own terms they have whole marketing depts doing nothing but that :p

Ya i understand this. That's why i said your right. I took it as him really only having experience with AR15's so the only thing he can relate a long stroke piston setup to would be a piston ar (obviously not long stroke). That kind of solidifies his lack of diverse knowledge. Without completely derailing this thread I think he also over values .22's.... Like half of his written review on the arx160 was about how berreta should use the same operating system on their mythical .22 arx160 as sig sauer used on the 522. He's critiqueing and gun that's not even out yet and if it does come out it wouldnt really matter all that much because its a .22 (imo obviously).

plus his lip is weird. :p jk!

okay i watched it again.... he's so bad when they are looking at the pocket pistol.. Armedsask i respectfully withdraw my comment.

Nutnfancy? The man is definitely a firearms legend in his own mind.

Well, who else served in both WW1, WW2 (Both theaters at the SAME time), Korea, Nam, both the Seals and the Marines, is s fighter pilot, a sniper, a gunsmith, as well as single handedly assassinating the real Saddam Hussein back in 1993 at 1000 yards with nothing but a Glock 22 (armacoated of coarse)

WOW get your facts straight..... He used a Ruger 10/22 not a glock! (still armacoated tho)
