Anyone shooting a 6mm-204 ?

A net search for '6mm-204' turns up a few forums where it's discussed, but not much else. A lot of "Why not use a...?" About the same from searching '6x47 IMP'.
Like remington jim says, a 6mm-204 is a 6 x 47. A necked up .222 Rem Mag.
 
It would be more interesting if the 6MM was the brass and .204 the bore..........JMO....Harold

Again... its close but not the same. While the 204 is based on the 222mag, as a parent it is superior with less body taper, a shorter neck, and different shoulder angle. Plus when you start forming cases, 204 cases are plentiful and the forming is much easier on the brass.

Dan, what kind of velcoity do you get out of the bigger bullets? say 85-100gr
 
The 6-222 Rem mag version had its day in the sun for SR BR. Was quite popular for a time.

Then came the PPC and that's that.

Case capacity of the 6-222RM or 204 Ruger will be slightly less then the PPC so you can use that case as a comparison for any velocities you want.

You might even find load data in some old Hrn load manuals for the 6-222RM. Close enough to start or just use PPC start data.

My SWAG would be 85gr around 2800fps. 100gr around 2500fps. in a 24" barrel.

What are you planning to use this rig for?

It would be my lightweight walking varmint rifle for coyotes/wolves. The 6X47 is in almost all my books, and I was planning on going that way, but after a bit of research I am leaning towards the 6mm-204.
 
That would be a very interesting application. We now have a nice range of varmint/target rds in the 75 to 90gr which would ideal for a build like this.

Feeding would be positive in any 223 based mag system.

I am sure you are aware of the fast twist 223 that can push 75 to 80gr bullets in a no brainer set up?

Yeah,
I originally started importing a 1 in 8 twist 223 from the USA, but was sweet talked out of it before it even made it here. And while I could build the same, in Alberta minimum bullet diameter for hunting big game is 6mm. - Not that I plan on hunting big game with it, but it would be legal.
 
6mm-.204 vs 6mm x 47

Double Gun - just build that gun in 6 x 47 forget that 6-204 the 6 x 47 will do anything that the 6-204 will do- also you can prob find a used set of good dies and 6 x 47 brass around- build it with a 9 twist and shoot anything from 70 gr to whatevers in and kill yotes-wolves deer or whatever with it ! Git er done- Jim :)
