I asked a gunsmith one time, he said 100 -150 bucks. Seems high when you can pick up an old cooey single shot for 60 or 70 bucks. I don't recall if it was threaded choke tubes or not, but it certainly seemed quite a bit higher than what I figured the gun was worth.

I have some nephews who will be in their teens soon. Maybe a good shotgun for them to learn on??

It is not legal to cut your shotgun (or any other) barrel. Only a gunsmith can do it, and even that must only be to repair damage to the muzzle.
You can have a factory made barrel installed in that length.

Ask in the gunsmithing section of the EE, the guy I found there did both of mine in invector pattern for $75 bucks each including return shipping.

Genius. I used a power palm sander and sand paper. I got hand cramps for a week. Maybe I should have asked before I sanded f:P:2:

On another note, I used a hacksaw and a flat metal file to shorten my barrel. Easy as pie. I just wrapped tape around it to ensure a square cut. Not looking for incredible accuracy out of this thing anyways... just destroying things that are close to me. Mission accomplished.
 
I had an older 870 Wingmaster cut to 19", a mag extension installed, and the sight re-installed on the vented rib. I still carry it occasionally. That was in the 80s before this dogs breakfast of firearms regulations came about. Altering a well used, but high end hunting shotgun is an inexpensive way to build a really nice bear gun. A half worn out wingmaster is still twice the gun that an 870 Express is.

How true - though I didn't think that Wingmasters ever really wore out...:cool:
 
Just got my 12.5" barrel from Canada Ammo. Installed it and reflexively let out a, "muwhahaha" - I feel so naughty...

Noticed that unlike some other Norinco shotguns, they don't stamp the barrel length on this one. Hmmm, looks like I'll be carrying my receipt forever, so any cops who see it don't think I'm naughty enough to charge.

im pretty sure i know the same licensed gunsmith who told me the same thing...wanted to charge me $75 to do it himself....while trying to scare me and tell me i was doing something illegal.

to homer; "These wheels won't take a balance" you can't cut your own barrel same BS. oh yeah DON be nice, nobody likes a goof. if you get caught in a mistake and you admit it no one will think less of you. when you tell someone to kiss your a$$ you come off like a douche.

Lot of that going around. Old guys that think just cause they are old they know more than you do about certain issues. Ask em to give you proof in writing from a government source and they start acting all offended. milarm is bad for this.

Who specifically was bad for this? Which person at Milarm?
 
It all starts at the top.

I don't go there often enough to remember any names, and the last time will probably be the last. Unless I can't find what I'm looking for anywhere else.

LAR-15 mags are a legal magazine. I don't have to be asked why or provide any information to buy them. A 5 year old can buy them legally.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience there. I don't argue that there have been some. But there have been some staff changes, and a staff member who had some significant issues with customer service has gone elsewhere.

The LAR-15 magazine issue was one of risk management. I can't speak for store management about their policy since I don't run the place. I just work there. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience because of it, and I'd like to encourage you to come back sometime and give us another chance. My coworkers and I are generally a good group of people who mean well.

Management of what risk exactly? Is it a legal product to sell or not? Does that product have any legal requirement tied to it at all? The only thing to ask any questions about is firearms, frames/actions/receivers, or ammo.

Like I said it all starts at the top, the owner. I refer to any milarm flyers I see as free toilet paper.

I hope your the cowboy action guy with a ton of tattoos. Find another job and quit.

Like I said, I'm not management so I won't cover their position here. I can't speak to their decision. I also wasn't there for your conversation so I can't speak to it.

The cowboy action guy with tattoos is Mike. He left a few years ago, not sure what he's up to. I'm happy with the job and whatever flaws it has. Good luck with your shopping elsewhere, and I'm sorry that we can't get you back.

Its always better to double check ! Or one ends up sounding like a jackass not that there is anything wrong with people laughing at sheer ignorance.

I had the same dilemma when I was cutting my Ithaca M37 barrel to a legal length 2 years ago.

Had some people here just yelling at me how I have to re-register it as a prohibited and only a qualified gunsmith is permitted to do such mods. .:rolleyes:

Just recently I had a person tell my son that his faux silencer on his HK Mark23 would be taken away if a LEO saw him using it. I asked uhm why?

I replied that if a LEO was so worried about the silencer actually working, he can stand in the next lane minus ear muffs and listen to the firearm go off 10 times and then tell me if its quiet or not.

A blank look ensued complete with a disapproving head shake.
Ignorance is bliss indeed.
