Quick question. Sorry if it has been covered before.

I just bought a used Remington 1100 Trap with 28" barrel fixed full choke . It as a mid barrel bead and a bead at the end of the barrel.

Question: When you are getting ready to shoot, do you stack the beads in your sight picture or do you make the front bead disappear behind the mid barrel bead?

You will probably get all kinds of different answers on this. Some will tell you to make a figure 8 with the beads, others will tell you to put the mid bead into the centre of the front bead.

Do it how ever you want to do it, but do it the same way every time. This way your POI will remain consistent shot to shot.

Brad.

I would say if you are mounting the Gun the same everytime the beads should be in the same position everytime. Best thing to do is forget about the beads and worry about the Target.

I may just use them for the initial set up before I call for the target, just to make sure it is the same as every other time, then keep your head in the same place, forget about the beads and call for the bird.

I've never concerned myself whether the beads were stacked in figure 8 style or slightly overlapped. So long as they at least were together. Any rib showing in between the beads when the gun is mounted properly means the stock is high and you are looking down on the rib which will cause you to shoot high. My way of putting up a gun when I first try one out in the store or wherever is to put the gun to my shoulder, place my head on the stock and get set in place all the while with my eyes closed. When I am set properly I open my eyes to see what the sight picture reveals. If all is well I know I am 95% on my way, may need a slight bit of tweeking but thats it. That works for me but it may not work for all. I have never had a gun professionally fit by a stockmaker but have had my gunsmith friend tweek mine to work for me.I know what works for me and can recognise if it is going to work or not. As said before, make sure you put the gun in the same place each time. You shouldnt have to adjust your head on the stock to tweek your sight picture, that WONT work.

Make a snowman with the beads and the target is the head - depending on how the gun fits, you may need to adjust how short or long the snowman's neck is!

ie) adjust the space between the front bead and the target.

A patterning board will help you find the POI - and see your pattern. With all the snow we have, you can put a clay on a snow pile as a target (downrange at a range) and see your pattern in the snow. It works quite well!

Good luck - SD

I would try both options on the pattern board and see what hits where you are shooting. Try fixed target or aim and and then shoot normal and just mount and shoot and see if there is any difference.See what works for you. Once you get used to it you will never see the beads.

I think you know what you mean:D but I would concentrate on hitting the target instead of worrying about the target.

Just trying to help you along to be all that you can be. No need to thank me:dancingbanana:

Ok I won't. Thank you that is. V:I:

IMO 1100's shoot flat, so "stacking" the beads (should look like 8) will make the 1100 shotgun shoot at point of aim, more or less bang on. However, depending on various different factors (height, gun mounting style etc...) this will vary from person to person. I usually use the beads as a indicator of correct mounting to ensure I mount the gun the same way every time. A good way to set it up is to post up on station 7 on a skeet field, and call for low birds, try letting the bird get a touch bit away from you to get consistant, simulated trap birds, using different sight methods... This way you will be able to profile what works for you, and what doesn't while eliminating the possibility (and usually guarantee in my case) that you'll miss the side to side shots on the trap field.

Good Luck!
