More Gevarms

FRENCH GEVARM MODEL A3, wearing a Redfield 4X on Weaver tip-offs. ALL original, front sight post inserts all still in the storage well in pistol grip. The A3 came WITHOUT a buttplate. Hard to find them in this excellent condition at this late date. Not been made for 40 years or so.

Found this one at on-line Greg Martin auction conducted from Vegas a few months ago. I've since only added a sling.

Finding ALL the original inserts still in the storage well 40 years later and unknown travels is very unusual.

Below is the A3 butt. Commonly found on ALL A3s I've observed, or have been reported, are the filled-in holes in the butt. These make it APPEAR there once was a buttplate which was removed. NOT SO! I have learned from OLD documents that it was never furnished with one.

Now this is one long thread and I thought Mauser's Gevarms looked a tad lonely so here's a few more. And yes Mauser, I concur 100% on the rarity of those front sight inserts. I was delightfully surprised to find these in the grip cap 25 years ago. The top one is a .22 l.r. & the bottom is a .22 short. being even more rare as I've never seen another.

Unfortunately the wood on the lower model in .22 short suggested someone lost his boat paddle and it begged for a facelift so Tru-Oil came to the rescue.
The top model in .22 l.r. when fed the old Federal 40 gr. Lightning ammo could take out the eye on a grouse at 35 yards. No bragg, just fact. She wears a Weaver 3 x 9 Marksman, fine X-hair. Top one in .22 l.r. wears a Bushnell 4 x 32 plex.
These old gals don't look too pretty anymore but there's just something about a gal you've known for a lifetime. The look, the feel, the bite, oops, forgot I was talking rifles here.

Hi, jackpine. Happy to see someone else likes these old Frenchies. I'm missing the A6 to complete the foursome of .22rfs they used to export to North America. Down here the Feds banned their import in the early .60s. Got this one with the cheap scope aboard and missing the original Mauser-type rear sight. Several years later stumbled on a guy living in St. Etienne who had a bunch of NEW old stock from the factory there, INCLUDING the sight I needed. Couldn't believe my luck when I got the large bunch of parts mailed to my door for just $35!!! Later resold the batch, minus the rear sight, for $45!!!

Even a blind squirrel picks up an acorn once in a while...

Did you say you have an A3 in short? There was a fellow posted a list of 9 .22rf models and I've got a copy of it stashed away for reference.

Below is one of my earliest acquisitions which I bought as an A7. Once in hand I discovered it had a threaded muzzle which means it was NOT intended for NA import. Haven't bothered to check what model number it's actually designated on that list I mentioned.

Here's my A7 - or whatever it is . . .

I've also been fortunate enough to obtain nine different old and recent Gevelot .22rf boxes in various configurations, including a couple of different boxes of tracers.

My brother in law was buying an SR-22 today, and I couldn't leave the store without something so this Savage .22 followed me home. Figured I'd see what all the fuss is about with heavy barrels. Workable trigger and cheap so it doesn't matter when I wreck it. Put a crappy paintjob on the crappy stock, now it just needs to warm up a bit so I can try it out.

Well it ain't black and it ain't a bolt but it's the first gun I ever owned and it's my baby. Bought new in 1979.
