Well the postie delivered my new bundle of fun today. I got the call while I was at work that my son was guarding the package until I came home. At which point it was his job to tear it open. Here's a few photos of my setup - hopefully I can get it to the range soon and put it on paper.

Side by side with the Non-Restricted PS90... The FN is still a little shorter :D. P90 with the optic, is only 8" high, whereas the RFB is almost 8" from the bottom of the grip to the top of the rail...It doesn't feel it, but the RFB is heavy... mine weighs in at 10 lbs 6 oz with an empty mag, optic, and mount system...

With the action locked open, you can see the empty casing ejection channel.. It's angled across the top of the gun to exit adjacent to the gas adjuster.

1-4 x 24 optic in an A.R.M.S. mount...

I mounted it with the levers on the right side to allow clearance for the charging handle. Seems to work pretty well...

Mag installed - fits in very nicely and jumps out of the gun when the release is pressed.

Selector is in a perfect position for my hands, easily manipulated, and surprisingly quiet.

This one's a bigger pic... I was trying to capture the crown, and show that the muzzle is actually contoured - so muzzle down on a flat surface, the crown is protected from harm... nice!

Mmmmmm..... RFB food.... :D

Additional mags a little tight... I ordered two extra mags, and both of them are significantly "fatter" in the spine than the one that came with the gun. The one from factory fit perfectly - very smooth insertion and ejection. The other two... not so much. I can get in one of them, but pressing the magazine catch does nothing. I suppose they can be "manipulated" into shape, but I'll see what Lanz wants to do first before I initiate operation "Brute Force and Ignorance".

This is the Factory mag - works great!

Impressions...

Pretty good so far... I know Kel-Tec is probably going crazy putting stuff together, so I'll cut them a little slack with respect to a few sharp edges at the seams on the polymer stock - I will remedy this tomorrow. As well, one of the screws that holds the bolt lock tabs on either side of the magazine well was wiggly loose... not a big deal to tighten it but still...

Other than that, it seems very solid. It shoulders incredibly well for such a heavy gun, and because of it's bullpup design, keeping the gun up on target for long periods of time was easy. The trigger on this gun is better than any bullpup I have ever fired. It as good as many of the AR's I've shot, and it isn't as "clunky".

I'll dig into it more tomorrow, as I neglected to bring my armorers tool box home tonight... oops....

Very nice pics! Man, Kel-Tec really came out of nowhere huh?
I'm liking what I'm seeing :)

I now have 3 Kel-Tec wants and a 4th yet to be released :p

I certainly don't remember them being known for "stellar" products 10 years ago... the new stuff is quite nice - Can't wait to rub some butter on this one, and for the new KSG to come out... I've already started to put change in the piggy bank for that one ;-)

Wow, very nice. How much did the RFB land you? This rifle is definitely the next addition to my wish list.

It's difficult to find a decent bullpup in Canada these days. Ones that aren't nonsensically classified prohib that is...

Very nice.

I also had a bolt lock tab on the side of the magazine well that was loose. I think it was the left one. Tightened it up and it's stayed tightened.

I see all of us buy our micrometers at Canadian tire when they are on sale. :p. Just went to the spare battery last night while checking OAL for RFB rounds.

wicked! really want to get one of these. I cant wait to hear the range report. also i notice you have steel cased ammo, i heard that was a big no no for this one. i was pretty peeved when i heard that, what does it say about that. id lvoe to shoot that through because of the pirce but was worried when i heard there being problums with it.

Nice peice of hardware, but im kind of curious. How would you remedy stoppages with this firearm? Would'nt it be hard to recognize what kind of stoppage you are having? The spent rounds eject from the front out a tube. So you cant look and see your stoppage. How exactly can you fix a jam/stoppage. Would you have to take the rifle appart. Just curious. Its hard to get idea of the rifle without accually holding/operating it. Im just a'lil bit puzzled on that one. Does the owners manual speak on this subject at all? Please enlighten my ignorance. Thanks

I'm not too concerned about stoppages with the gun. I have no intention of involving myself in a ballistic event, unless it's one sided, and the other side looks like a critter :D

That said, stoppage would follow the 4F's, and either be primary or secondary. So it a tap-rack-go doesn't fix it, then I'll revert to rip-rack-rack-load-go. Using two techniques that maintain consistency makes clearing the muck out pretty straightforward.

Very nice.

It was the left tab on mine that was loose as well - corrective measures applied! The CTC mic's are a great deal, and at the price, I don't mind having them in the portable tool kit allowing me to leave the older ones on the bench!

I'll buy the coffee if you let me fondle that beauty!!! Lucky Bugger!!!

Cheers
Jay

Fondling is free, but if you feel compelled to buy coffee it wouldn't be polite for me to refuse...! pm me and we'll set something up Jay...

I've been reading about the design a bit further, and the ejection tube
is square/rectangular, not round. That was probably a design feature worked into the rifle with the R&D team concerned with the possibility of spent brass getting hung-up during ejection.

Looks awsome. Great pics. I want one of these bad. What kind of extra mags did you get that are too fat? Are there any other kinds you can get instead?

The extra mags are the exact same as supplied with the rifle - DSARMS. I'll have to see what Lanz says about them - maybe just a straight exchange - I'll also send an email to Vault Distribution to see what's up.

Now, another thing about the mags... the floor plate has an extended tab with a hole drilled in it for removal in order to clean and maintain the magazine. That's great on a full length mag, but with these compact five rounders, that tab will dig into the polymer of the magwell, and I don't feel like mangling the new rifle. My easy fix was to remove the plate, and bend up the tab at the midpoint to 90 degrees. Still functions as intended, and doesn't damage the rifle...

On another not, I decided to take a look on the inside of the RFB, and really don't like using bullets as a take-down tool... So I grabbed a chunk of Delrin, and a few minutes on the lathe... Voila

5uws8.jpg

Take-down tool with bullet tip and small punch on the opposite end. The nylon lanyard serves another role as well... because the A.R.M.S. levers are on the turret side of the optic now, it's hard to get in there and release them... Loop the lanyard around the lever and off it comes - very easy...

When you go to reassemble the rifle, make sure the front two pins are in place then push back on the barrel by the accessory thread. Now while still pushing back put in the two rear pins. If you don't do this, the pins will stick. Not just on assembly but also again when you go to take it apart. On mine the back rear pin was stuck at the halfway point. In the manual they have you hold the rifle upside down which accomplishes the same thing. Since the C model doesn't come with a flash hider I suspect most like myself won't do this.

As for clearing a stoppage. Tap rack ########!! The same as any other stoppage. If it jams up, like any other firearm you're going to have to take it apart to fix the flaw. Fairly quick with the RFB once you're used to it.

One other thing to keep in mind. You need to double rack the firearm to clear it. The extractor holds an extra empty cartridge. It'll catch you off guard the first few times.

Vault is the distributor, and they have several retailers. I bought mine from Lanz Shooting Supplies, but it is also sold by Wolverine, Wanstalls, P&D (I think) and at least one more whose name escapes me.
