the best .22LR pistol for under $600?

I just bought my first .22 ever, a GSG 1911. I never ventured into the .22 market before but with the cost of ammo rising i have to save some coin. A friend asked me about .22 pistols (not revolvers) which is the best for under $600? Anymore and I would kind of lean towards a larger gun. What is out there that's reliable and nice looking to boot?

From everything I've been following on these boards and elsewhere, the GSG 1911 is the way to go.
I was thinking about a Sig Mosquito, but apparently it jams a lot, FTE, FTF etc.
I will be buying a GSG very soon :D
 
What do you guy's think about Crapo Norinco's nock off of the great Colt Woodsman?
Is it even worth it to buy?
Or is it a steer clear and a waste of money and time?
 
so far I've only seen the GSG, Sig, CZ and Glock copy that are interesting looking although some cost more than $600 and have reliability issues. Any others?

Never had a failure except for the odd dud round. Too darn bad that some $1000 guns couldn't be built as good.

Look for a used Ruger MkII. It is one of the most reliable firearms I have ever owned. I have had mine for almost 20 years and have never had the slightest hiccup. Eats every kind of ammo I have fed it with no issues.
 
New GSG with fake can. I think they are teh best bang for the buck. Or get a full sized gun and get a .22 conversion. If the GSG is a bit small for your hand just put a pachmyr finger grove on it and you will love it. I have these grips on my Beretta 92 and my GSG 1911

My HS Supermatic is a real tack driver with either barrel. The High Standard pistols can be a bit difficult to find but when you do, they are worth the wait!
