What model Eotech on C8

The 552.A65 is 'military'. It has an NSN, and is on issue to more countries than just us. US troops overseas were using the 552 amongst other optics (Acog, Aimpoint, etc) recently.
The 552 was in the system before the 553 came out, I'm fairly certain. It's the same reason why most troops get issued the Hi-Power, instead of something more modern - We have a lot of them.
Most people get issued the Elcan, still.
It depends on your chain of command.
You have more of a chance of getting away with it if you are doing a lot of dismounted operations, in my experience.
That being said, I did see a number of support trades who never left the wire with picture-perfect shiny new personally purchased ACOG's and the like. A waste of money - but whatever makes them happy. It doesn't affect me any.
Weapons mods for CF members
Ok so here is the deal on weapon mods for over seas. I am a Sgt in 2 RCR. I just returned from Afghanistan in December. Any sight the is not issued is not a legal modification according to the rules set down by the CDS and all the legal types out there. However and I say this lightly if you put a modification on your weapon and the wrong person sees it you will hang. I was issued a Eotech which I added a magnifier to with no issues. And just so you all know the CF's main battle sight for the C7A2 and the C8A3 is the C79 Elcan. I did see some troops using Acogs I even saw a mechanic with a 3x9 bushnell on his C7A2 why I do not know.
The Elcan that we use is a little heavy and not very ###y but is was designed for your rifle and works very well. Not sure why but if you have any issues and you are in fact in the CF then ask your COC and see what they say.

When the MPs come and confiscate it, it won't be worth anything to you. They however, will be glad to have their stolen property back.
