Just wondering if anyone out there would guess as to the population of the rarer sorts of Finnish Mosins in Canada such as the B-barrels on M91 and M39, stepped barrel M24's and Tikkas, P-series rifles, 28/76's, Tikka M39's, M39 'sneaks' and Finnish M39/ PE scope reproductions.

..as well as others I'm forgetting that are on the rare side of the spectrum.

This sounds like a Heat Transfer Problem, Fournier Series, and Beer!

Im not sure on total numbers but I do believe the man to ask such a question to would be JP.

Just a note I have seen a few B barrel M1891s, 28/76s and one or two M24's. One just recently sold on the EE.

I have a "B" barrel 91 with a "W" stamp on the receiver and a "D" on the bbl; a SAT barrel on an 1894 Izhevsk receiver; an M28/30 with Sako bbl and on a 1917 Sestroryetsk receiver; and a 1940 Tikka on an 1894 Chatellerault receiver.

Why not have a Mosin Serial Number and Data Sticky (Finn, Russian, etc) for this and the Russian, other countries, etc PE and PU Snipers.

Kjohn, nice work. Did you dig to find those, or were they lucky finds?

Given another thread that shows about six M24s held by CGNers, I'd multiply that by about four for the cross-Canada count.

I saw two scoped M39s on the EE in the summer, IIRC, one had a PE on it. I'd doubt that there are more than a half dozen like that in the country.

The 28/76 is the crown jewel in my books, and they're around, but very expensive.

Pure, unadulterated luck. I bought most of my Mosin Nagants back when they were just "them old Russian rifles". I also have a really nice M39, a couple of Remingtons and a New England Westinghouse, plus some of the standard "old Russian rifles".:p

What's the deal with P-26's. I've got one and don't have a lot of info on it. Other than the previous owner used to work at some military surplus place and "got it off a boat". Rare? Value?

P-series

They are rare. And they have been the subject of much hot air in their time. Some rumors were running around (most probably false) about the safety of the Salerno retubing method used on their barrels. The rumors were finally rejected but it interrupted the rifles rebuilding process long enough to cause the program's demise. The P-26 and P-27 weren't issued in great numbers and this, along with their history, makes them very much sought after by collectors.

There is a very good text on the early Finnish M-91 on this page of Mosin-Nagant.net

For Finns or Mosins in general?

Finns only. And this is just my personal opinion.

EDIT: I am also limiting it to rifles I know to be in Canada. Obviously there are some rifles, like original Finn sniper rifles or 1944 Tula hex reeciver M44's with SA stamps on them, etc. that are rarer but there just aren't ANY verified examples in Canada.
