Is a Rem 700 a Rem 700. What I mean is if I buy a 700 SPS vs a 700 CDL am I getting the same gun? Or are the barrel and action the same and it is just a difference in stock that make the difference in price? Or is the action built of better materials on the CDL. I'm just wondering because I'm looking at picking one up and will spend the extra dollars to get a better gun if they are not the same quality. Thanks, sorry for the noob question.

Normally a 700 action is a 700 action. Your differences in name(BDL,ADL,SPS etc..........) are other options as in hidden magazine, floor plate, stocks, barrel dimensions.

You can get LA and SA in many of the same models.You can get different finishes but the action is still the same.You can get a black mustang or a red mustang still the same car, then you gut it and build your race car, very much the same thing folks are doing with the rifles.
But you are doing as many others are, getting the SPS for a good price and basing that on a build considering they are not going to use much more than the action and trigger group.

Action/barrel are the same. Finish differs. SPS coating is pretty rough...gets better with price. Also get a jeweled bolt with some models. ADL's have a blind magazine. BDL's are repeaters with either hinged floorplate or detachable magazine. Long or short action will depend on caliber.
A blind magazine (ADL)has no floorplate,and loads through the top of the magazine.Rounds must be cycled out.The SPS has a much rougher finish than more exspensive models,I prefer not to use them for builds although they function just fine. Mur
just when i thought there was nothing worse then a hinged floorplate they do this!! i hate em! couldn't deal with a hidden 1.
the only good thing about the hinged floorplate is cabelas.com sells a $50.00 kit to convert the 700's to DM.......glad i live on the border!
