Need Help with my Scope...possibly with the seller of my scope as well!!

I recently bought my first rifle a Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 love it think it's a great rifle. I was interested in the Bushnell 6500 with the DOA reticle and after researching it and checking it out at the store I ended up buying them together and getting the scope mounted at the store. Unfortunately after reading threw the manual I've discovered the DOA reticle is not calibrated for a .308 and cannot be adjusted for a .308. I realize it's partially my fault for not researching it enough but I am also new to shooting and went to the dealer so I could get "expert" opinions and was told that this was a great combination of caliber, rifle and scope. Any suggestions of what you think the dealer should do? Anyone have this reticle with any suggestions?

Although if I was you I would be looking at a fixed 10x scope in MRAD
As this rifle screams for a nicer scope and BDC is not all that it's cracked up to be.

Kind of a difficult situation to be in, and my sympathies. I think the DOA or ballistic reticle for a high powered centerfire is a bit of a solution looking for a problem. Most guns of this type can be held dead on out to 300 yards or so if they are sighted in properly with a good bullet. The 308 perhaps is not the flattest shooting cartridge around and may make some use of it.

I think you have about 3 choices:

1. Call Bushnell, perhaps starting in the US, and explain the problem. I recall they used to have a semi custom reticle service and would change them out. Perhaps they would give you a break on the price of doing that.

2. This company, Premier Reticles used to do custom reticles. It looks now that they may have moved towards complete scopes, but may be worth a try. You do have the crossing the US border issue though.

3. Learn to adapt the divisions that are there to your gun. Ballistic reticles are useful on black powder guns and rimfires because of the significant drop at the ranges they are used over. I know some with rimfires buy black powder scopes and adapt (in their head) the scales to rimfires. Ignore what the numbers say and think what they really mean for your gun.
