Just revieved my new Savage 10BAS and wondering what would be the scope for this rifle along with good set of rings.I have been reading about the Vortex line seems to be a good bang for your buck, but have also heard good things about the Sightron line.I don't have the funds for most of the high end scopes such as leupold etc. so what would be you recommend for a guy starting out in the medium to long range shooting?

I depends what you mean by "long range". That rifle does not have any tilt on the rail, which means if you were to use a Bushnell 6500, which has only 50 MOA of adjustment, you would only be good to about 550m. For the same price as the Bushnell you can get the Sightron 8-32, which has about 70 MOA of elevation. That should get you to 800m or better. Both those scopes are in the $900-$1000 range.

Of course, you could use Burris Signature Zee rings with inserts to get some more elevation as an alternative.

I currently use the Sightron 10-50x60 on my 10-BAS, with extra high Weaver tactical rings. That's about $1200 w/rings.

You'll like the rifle. Very comfortable to shoot.

I just bought the same gun. Where did you purchase your exact setup? i was going to go sightron 8-32x60 or bushnell 6500 4.5 -30x50. But if your setup works well I'd like to copy. Thanks in advance.

You can get Sightron scopes from Hirsch Precision. The Weaver rings most any shop should have, but if you want to go for longer distances (600m+) get the Burris rings. Mystic Precision ( site sponsor) can get them for you. He can also get the scope for you if you'd rather.
