Anyone know what the limits are for primers and powder if one were to bring them across from the states? I realize its 0 as far as the BATF is concerned but am wondering about the limits w.r.t. the Canadian Border Agency.

Here is a company that obtains the export permit from US State department, you get the import permit in Canada. Then you're legal.

If it was worth it at all there would be lots of us doing it!

IBTL means IN BEFORE THE LOCK.

I say this because this topic has been discussed a million times and there is already a ton of information on the topic. It also is a grey area as far as legalities are concerned and there are those that would give some bad advice about going stateside and buying ammo.

Usually these threads get locked pretty quick, and as the previous poster has linked you to a page that contains all the information it might happen sooner than later.
 
Truth is, it's not the CBSA who decides, the limits are set by the ERD (Explosives Regulatory Department) of Natural Resources Canada. Here is the link to their webpage that tells you what quantities you may bring in without an import permit (it's 5000 primers and 8# of powder, in case you're lazy):

BE AWARE, as everyone will tell you, while it's not illegal to bring them back with you as far as Canada is concerned, while you're stateside you're in a foreign country and if they find you they can and may charge you under some pretty potent statutes...

What about lead shot....is it illegal to import from the states, from the states perspective as well?
 
Come on guy's if your down in the states and your driving back be honest and pay the GST at the border and don't worry about it. I could have brought back a garbage bag of brass home and I don't think anyone would care less. The Hi-cap pistol mags well that might be different.
 
GST isn't the issue at all. It is what is and what is not legal to export from the US with and without Export paperwork. I'll leave what that is up to the CGN lawyers....

That's a good question. Kinda a grey area, in that possession of firearms, parts of firearms or ammunition by non-resident aliens is prohibited (paraphrased from the ATF regs), so if they searched you stateside and found a sack of lead labeled '00 Shot', or 'shotgun lead' or something like that, they would have grounds to get judicial if they wanted to...

On the other hand, there are lots of legitimate uses for lead shot that don't involve firearms at all, and then it would be a question of whether lead is a federally regulated material or not, and I'm not sure about that one. :confused: Best perhaps to consult google, or your local scrap metal shop.

You do realize that there are US EXPORT checks, and they can stop you anywhere near the US border. If they find you have components, that will be the last time you ever set foot in the US.

Not sure if shot is under Department of Commerce, as with shotguns, or as ammunition under the Department of State. Different rules.

Has nothing to do with the ATF though. U.S. Dept of State and U.S. Dept of Commerce.
