So this is what I figure it will cost to reload 1K 300 Winmag rounds. Anybody please correct me if I am wrong here cause I have yet to reload these rounds.

Brass= $800 @ 1K, taken in consideration using the brass 4 times = $200 Win or Rem.
Bullets= $300 @ 1K, 180Gr Sierra or Horandy, these are their entry level bullets.
Primers=$43 @ 1K, Winchester
Powder= $350 @ 12lbs, H4831

$893 to make 1K 300 Winmag rounds, thats .89 each round. Sound good?

Alright so that is what I came up with. I don't care about the time or tools right now I just want to figure out what the cost of the round would be right now.
Thanx for your help.

All prices from WSS.

7000 grains per pound

lets say 75 grains per round of imr4831

with a bit of waste lets say 90ish rounds per pound

so 1000 rounds you will need around 11 pounds of powder .

looking at wholesale sports website , your looking at around 300.00 in powder ( + taxes & shipping ) .

everything said and done , unless your getting stuff in bulk and being very carefull about your money , your in the 80 cent to 1.10 range per round .

this doesn't take into account for reloading equipment and eventual barrel replacement .... 1000 rounds is at least 1/3 of the barrel life , thus at least 1/3 the cost of getting a new barrel .

WWS has the powder at that price.
Changed the power to 12lbs @ $300
Barrel replacement??? if I go by the specs from the OEM rounds do I still need to
replace the barrel after 3K rounds?? Why is it so hard on the barrel??
does one still have to roll the brass in oil before reloading or is that just .223??

Figure about $55.00 per bag of 50 for the brass so $275.00 (4 firings each)
A case of 1000 Winchester Magnum primers would be $55.00 or so.
180 grain Hornady Soft Point Interlocks are ~$40.00 per 100
A modest load for the 180 grain 300WM is 70 grains of H4831 so figure 100 rounds per pound. At $40.00 per pound your 1000 rounds would take $400.00 worth of powder.

$.275 Case cost
$.055 per primer
$.40 per bullet
$.40 per powder charge.

$1.13 per loaded cartridge or $1130.00 + tax for your 1000 hand-loaded rounds.

Now factory Federal 180 grain SP 300 WM ammo goes for about $30.00 per 20 so your cost would be ~$1500.00 + tax

$370.00 saved by loading your own. Sell your 1000 once-fired factory brass though for 25 cents each will bring you back $250.00 so your "savings" may be whittled down to $120.00 or so.

$620 to make 1K 300 Winmag rounds, thats .62 each round. Sound good?

I don't think your numbers are quite correct, that powder should be far more expensive that $20 a lb. You would actually need quite a bit more than 4 to do it.
Where are you getting 250pcs of brass for only $200?
1lb=7000gns.
73.0gn (max load) for 2900fps. 73.0x1000=73,000gns
73,000gns/7000gn per lb=10.43lbs.
And even at $20/lb (can't see this anywhere) that's $220. In real prices it should be closer to $300 since I don't see anyone local selling it for under $25 even in bulk.

I would suggest you change powders. Maybe IMR3031.
Max Load 58.5gn, vel 2865fps. Not much vel difference, so probably quite suitable. Only around 8.4lbs to make that same 1000 rds.

Or better yet, IMR4895 Max load 60gn. Vel 2950fps You'd need 8.5lbs.

I am buying primers for under $40/K right now. But powder from Higginsons. IMR4895, 7lb lots, $175 ($25/lb). I buy in 21lb lots to save on the shipping.

If I were doing this my costs (inc taxes and shipping) would run:

Brass: $43/50. need 250 pcs to load 4 times to get 1000. $43*5= $215
Bullets: $310
Primers: $40
Powder: $240 (9lbs IMR4895 @ $25/lb)
Total: $805. Total cost per round would be about $0.81.
This is still about 55% of what I can find for posted bottom-line rounds (Winchester Super X, which is still a good performer to my mind). Yours will be better still.
Good luck.

think the cost of barrel's would break you to shoot 1000 300 winmag

Unless you are shooting a 308Win that is true of pretty much any round.
My last 300Win got 2200 rounds before I replaced it.
It still shot sub 3/4 inch at 100.

WWS has the powder at that price.

Really?? I am looking at it right now. 1lb of H4831 is $31.99. In bulk (8lb) lots it is $225. Not sure where your prices are from, but you will come in wa-a-a-a-ay low, my friend.

I didn't get the impression that you were going to shoot 1000 rounds every weekend. More like, trying to find out what you would need on hand to actually do this and ensure that you 1000rds available to you. Yes?

I think you mean case lube. Not sure I would roll my cases in oil to re-size, could kill the primer or contaminate the powder charge if left inside the case.

I think your case cost is too high. I get about 20 reloads out of my .264WM, which is essentially the same case with a different neck. That is without annealing. They die from neck splits. Annealing every 5 loads would probably double life. At 75 grains of powder per load you are looking at about 1500 rounds for barrel life.

Ordinary motor oil will not work on the case for full length sizing. It is a recipe for a stuck case. STP will work fine, as will the commercial sizing lubes.

Just curious, why do you want to load 1,000 at once anyways??? When I did my load development for my 300 WM, I put 50 rounds though it in one afternoon taking a break after every 5 rounds and I was done!!! I didn't even want to shoot my .22 anymore after that.

WWS has the powder at that price.

3000 rounds isn't hard on a barrel, that is pretty decent life for a magnum calibre burning 70+gr of powder on every shot. This isn't rimfire you're talking about, it is a heavy hunting calibre.

Yes, you need case lube. Very little if you primarily neck size, but there will always be the occasional full length sizing needed to bump the shoulder.

The way you are pricing it, it sounds like you plan to load 1000 rounds of the same load, is that correct? Do you realize that your rifle might not like the powder or bullet that you chose? When developing loads you will usually buy a selection of bullets (brands, weights and types) to try, along with a few 1 lb containers of different powders. Once you have found a combination or two that you and the gun like you can then do your 1000 round exercise.

If you want to save a bit more, you could switch to CCI primers for $34/1000.

I'm off 50 bucks on the powder then.. good to know.
I'm trying to get an average cost per round if I were to do it.
So no to the oil?? good lol
Will edit the original post.
I am not going to reload 1000 off the bat I'm just trying to get the average.

So no to the oil?? good lol

For sure you need a lubricant to full length size a magnum cartridge, or the cartridge will make a one way trip into the die. Motor oil does not cut it. Use a very thin coating of STP or a specialized sizing lube from Lee, Lyman, or many others.

"...do I still need to replace the barrel after 3K rounds??..." No. If you do the barrel is/was defective to start with.
"...Brass= $800..." Light for Remington. It runs $45.95 per 50, here. That's $919 per 1000 plus taxes. Depends on where you buy it, of course.
"...roll the brass in oil..." You never roll the brass in oil for any cartridge. Lube it, sure, but not rolled in oil.

Sorry read it wrong, so oil it is.
Thanks for all the help guys.
So on average .89 per round sound good..??

My seat of the pants estimate

Bullet + powder + primer + case

$35/100 + *$35(7000/70) + $4/100 + $50/100/20 (20 loads per case) = .35+.35+.04+ 0.03 = 77 cents

That is for good quality bullets, and cases that are properly sized.
