ive been looking around online and mostly all im finding is stuff thats about a buck a shot, be it slug bird shot or something in between. crappy tire doesnt list ammo on their site anymore and neither does walmart but i know they carry it. im gonna go pick some up once my hp9 arrives and im curious where you guys in southern ontario have found the cheapest ammo for your shotguns? id like some slugs for some target fun along with something to shoot clay with. would i be better off making a trip to the next city and visiting a gun store or buying directly from crappy or wally world price wise? figure id ask rather than drive around and burn through half a tank of gas looking for a place to save a buck on a box. thanks

Canadian Tire and Walmarts should have shotgun shells in 100 packs. I just picked up 100 Federal Field and Range shells from Canadian Tire for $29.99. I need a bunch of cheap crap to work on my SXS reload speed and that's 33 cents a shot, cheaper than a 308 reload.

" Small shot propelled at moderate velocities. "

Okay, So what exactly would it say on the box?

Would it say something like "Number 7 Birdshot" ?

Or would the box actually say "Target Load" on it?

that taxes in by any chance ? no prices listed on website and they arent open weekends...

LeBaron's is within a buck of this, plus tax, so tax in is about .23 per
for 7 1/2 target loads
always worked perfect in my 18 1/2 870

I doubt you will ever see any box of shotgun shells with "Birdshot" on it.

The box will say something like:

12 gauge 2 3/4 inches 1200fps 1 1/8oz 7 1/2

Target loads are labeled target loads

hunting loads are labeled "game loads"

Both come in a variety of different sizes with the difference being the weight.

No, plus tax. They don't have them listed on the site, you have to call during business hours. Also a great place to buy reloading components in bulk at good prices. Well worth a road trip to stock up if you aren't too far away.

I'm in the Niagara falls area so not that far out. how many shots per box in a flat? glad to hear that its cheaper than what I've seen online. what would you guys recommend I use to shoot Clay in my 14 inch hp9? seems like there is a really big selection out there so I need to learn what I can before stocking up on ammo.

thanks for all the help guys

250 to a flat (10 boxes x 25 shells).

As you're not shooting competitively with a 14" barrel, anything from 7.5 to 9 would be fine for sporting clays.

What is the choke on a HP9? If its cylinder your range wont be very far. You likely wont be able to hit too many clays.

yeah i think its just the cylinder, im gonna look into something with a choke in the future but for now ill stick with what i have. i went to crappy tire today and the selection there is a little over whelming when you first start looking at it, lots of options. luckily it has pictures of what most of the stuff is used for so thatll help a little for when i start buying. there were a few boxes and the description made it sound like it had 2 balls inside of each shell. but it didnt say what it was used for

The winchester or federal 100rd sleeves are good clays ammo for the price, look for 71/2 or 8 shot. Most trap ranges state 7 1/2 is the largest you can use. ATA rules definately state it, but you would not be shooting registered targets with that gun anyhow.

A good target/practice load will be

2 3/4 inch
2 3/4-3 1/4 dram equivelant
1 1/8 oz 7.5 or 8 shot
1145-1200 fps velocity

The winchester and federal sleeves fit in that description. Have Fun and wear hearing protection!!!
