I handload 150gr .311 bullets in my sons SKS and at 50 yards 5 shots tore one hole.................Harold

I aquired about 20 (20 rd) boxes of Bear brand Ammo in a 150grain SP. I'm not a ballistic's guru; I let other folks do that. But the round works pretty good on deer at 150-200 paces.

Don't shoot a moose in the shoulder at all let alone shoot a moose with a 125gn bullet. I wouldn't shoot a moose in the shoulder with a .30-06 and 220gn bullets. Why would you want to do that? Wait a minute or two, he'll move. Boiler room. Every time.
One large WT buck I shot at 75yds with the SKS. 125gn sierra prohunter. Heart shot, broadside. Through and through. He went 20yds before piling up.

And after 3 pages thank you guys, will somebody tell me what o where its the BOILER ROOM, in the deer

Boiler Room is an expression for the vitals. Heart, lungs, liver.....found basicly right behind the shoulder........get over to the hunting section and start reading and asking questions there. We will be happy to help.

My Mexican match recipe starts with surplus steel case ammo. If for the SKS, Czech stuff is fine, if for the Remingotn 799, then I use Norinco.
First I remove the 123gn FMJ bullet from 10 bullets. (I actually do this for 100, but no difference)
Then I dump out all the powder from the bullets and weigh it in one pan.
Then I divide that by 10 to get the avg charge weight.
Then I subtract 1.5gns from the avg charge weight. (I used to take out 2, but went back up a little)
I then charge the cases with this new charge weight.
Then I seat a 150gn soft point.
Then I crimp using a Lee FCD.
Then I sight in.
Then I shoot the deer.
Then I cook the deer...
Anything out to 300yds is an easy shot with this in my Remington 799, and 200 easy in three of my SKS's. You could play with it further, but I just haven't bothered. Simply changing the bullets from 123 to 150gn without removing powder showed definite signs of pressure I didn't like. Taking out 1gn reduces that pressure, but still had primers I was not fond of, reducing it by a further 1.5 made it acceptable to me. And since most load data has a difference of 2-3gns less when loading 125 to 150gn bullets, I started there

I've shot quite a few deer with my 7.62x39.
They were all shot at under 150 yards with Remington factory loads.
All the deer just dropped dead. Just as dead as when I shoot them with my 30/30.
It works just fine at moderate ranges.
