CanadaAmmo 12.5" 870 Barrel - legal?

Sorry to disappoint you, I currently don't have any Chinese shotguns, just a commie bbl. on an 870.

I use my Beretta's and Benelli's for hunting, not busting mud discs and pompous ass posts on the net. Have a nice day.

 "Mud disks" as you call them can be good practice for hunting. Most people call them Clay's. Your Beretta or Benelli might enjoy it. You should try it you will meet some very nice people.

WIN/64: i'll consider your silence on my challenge to be proof of the BS that rolls from your mouth. Secondly as to meeting nice people at clays, if they have anything like the stuck up attitude i've seen from you sir i'd beg to differ. I know quite a few very well to do people and non of them come off near as stuck up as what i've seen in your last few posts posts.

If that is so, try posting your questions in the proper forum.

Not everyone who has a 12.5" bbl. 870 is a mall ninja, infact I would suspect there are a pile of people who take the gun on canoe trips, backpacking, etc. for wildlife protection. I've shot ruffed grouse with mine.
The fact that an 870 with 12.5" bbl. maintains it's non-restricted status makes it all the more attractive.

Yes, it's loud, but so is a ported clays gun.
One mod has already noted this is in the wrong forum.

Even if the gun is used for "wildlife protection" the mods have recommended it be in the B&G forum.

Maybe we should all get together and do a group buy of grizzly mag feds and start our own mud disc club...no shiny guns allowed:p no ported guns either... they hurt my wittle ears:rolleyes:

Here's a little inspiration for you.

12.5" Ghost Ringed Grizzly with CAA M4 stock.

At its shortest, bit over 29 inches over all. :)

Maybe you should all get together and go to the Black and Green Shotgun forum if that's what you want to do.

It's the forum beneath this one.

WIN/64: If you'll kindly take note... I asked no question. I posted an answer for the OP and i called you out on your claim of the UBER recoiling short shotgun. The purpose of my short shotgun is for hunting in the brush, in a shotgun only WMU. The admittedly short distances seen in eastern ontario deer hunting mean the shortness is not a issue. So unless the I misread, it doesn't say clay forums in the titles and as such i'd have to say that this is the right forum. Now if the gentleman asked about 3 gun or how to mount a light you would have a point.

What is this need for the tactical gun lovers to try and prove their stubby little gun is a hunting gun? To to choose a gun that is much louder, handles poorly and has a lower muzzle velocity due to the short barrel just to prove some sort of dumbass point borders on slob hunting.

You don't really need to come here and justify your choice to be tacticool. Really you don't.

Hey guys, I appreciate all the feedback that's been offered here - but as the OP, please, there's no need for mudslinging or turning this thread into a standoff between those who like their shotguns tactical and those who dont; as time's already told, both are legitimate preferences, and both have their own subforums for hashing it out.

The reason I asked the question in the first place was because I've got a Remington 870 Express Mag I purchased with a 28" barrel, and its a bit too long and heavy for purposes other than duck/upland game bird hunting. Its a dandy shotgun and I'd love to have more flexibility out of it - such as for keeping under the bed for those bumps in the night - for deer hunting, even rabbit hunting, with a smaller barrel. I guess I was trying to determine the best length for compromising on all of the above.

Thanks again for everyone's thoughts

For all those purposes, you could look for a Remington 14" bbl. with screw in chokes. I/C for slugs and full for rabbit. Lots more money, but also more versatile.
I don't know if you can get a 12.5 Grizz with chokes and looking at mine I would say the walls are too thin for adding threading for tubes.
I had a Norc HP-9 some time ago.........can't honestly remember if it had tubes.

There are various reports around that the Chinese barrels don't always index properly with Remington guns. The Can Am barrels have bead sights with a cylinder choke, not a particularly good combination for deer hunting with slugs. Remington makes after market 20" rifle sighted barrels with an IC choke that would be a better choice IMO.

My 12.5 came threaded for chokes and included one choke tube (IC i believe). And contrary to reports fits just fine on my wingmaster. The same can be said for the wingmaster barrel on the dominion. But of course if you use this for hunting you run the risk of being labeled a slob hunter by claybuster. There is no standoff between traditional gun owners and tacticoolers. I own both.

Is 85 your birth year or your IQ?

Yeah you got me Claybuster. Personal insults are the way smart people win a debate. If it helps you any, my brief stint in post secondary schooling resulted in a 3.8 GPA (perfect is 4.0). I've never had my IQ tested given that by the time I was in school, eugenics programs in the Dominion of Canada had ceased thus no reason for widespread IQ tests. Nice try though. Any pertinent questions or do you plan to continue with your eloquent quips?
