I am just in the midst of rebarrelling my older left hand savage 110CL with a McGowen 23" 338 06 barrel and have been searching far and wide for a "Nice"
Stock to replace the original Birch one. About the only place I have found that makes a "Pretty" stock is Richards Microfit but am having one heck of a time contacting them. Anyone have any dealings with them, are they good stocks and are they worth all the trouble trying to contact. Jus tryin ta make my favorite ol' girl "Pretty"again.:D
Thx John

In my experience you'll have a pretty stock in hand in 7 days with Boyds. Just make sure your bolt spacing is the same they have. Current LA bolt spacing is 5.062" centre to centre. If you have an older model with approx 4.4 you may need to mod. Good luck. You'll have a shooter on your hands.

oh but they do provide walnut...you need only ask. It appears their walnut supply is low right now, but they willl make you one. Keep an eye out on their site, or just give em a call. They are very good to work with.

Or you could darken your current stock. For light woods like maple and birch I use a torch and lightly singe the surface. I use 0000 steel wool to remove as much of the singe as I want to leave a very pretty dark wood behind. Also hardens the surface of the wood. The torch allows only specific areas to be singed too for edging or details etc or even a camo pattern. Wont fade of crack either.

Thx I may give this a try temporarily and see how it looks but still have a hankerin for a fancy piece of lumber:p
Also I only emailed Boyds. I will give them a call and see what they come up with.

Watch you don't have a intermediate action length, check the action guide on boyds' sight to confirm you action size/screw spacing is correct.

JohnyOne, let me know how this turns out. I too have a left hand 110, in .308, for which I would like a nicer stock. (Sometimes, a rifle just needs purty.) I was thinking a laminated one for beating about, and a fancy one for dress up days.

I will gladly keep you posted on what I find.
Savage112 thank you I am on the road this week and hope the spacing is the 5.062" will know when I get back.

Do a search here and you will find few good reports on Richards. I did get one, Wildcat thumbhole for my Savage, and I love it. It took a lot of work, but is now complete, steel bedded, shhots very well and is unique.
The problem with Richards is, trying to get a hold of them, long delivery times and rough workmanship. None of this bothered me, and I feel even more satisfied with my results due to the extra work I had to do.
They do have some very different designs, and good prices, just be prepared to spend some time completing your project.

I kinda think Richards is going to be my only option if I want to fancy her up. I did get a reply from Boyds today and you are correct MadDog they don't make one for the mag fed side button release style. I have heard that the inletting on the Richards' are not fully inletted and am prepared to work with that.
Still it's too bad we have to fight so hard to find a stock for our sometimes not so common Savages.:(

I use to own a 111 package gun (long action) with det mag that sported a Boyds laminate stock. It looked like the previous owner just cut out the mag and the button release and it worked fine. The bottom of the mag had the piece of laminate glued to it and it looked good.

Just saw this over at Stocky's:

SAVAGE Conversion Tip! If you have the late model centerfeed detachable clip, the clip itself will disassemble easily to convert your rifle to a blind magazine (just get an inexpensive part #106130 by calling Savage's parts department. Add a triggerguard to your Savage parts order and you'll be good to go.) Just did one and works great, seems Savage likes to use common parts from rifle to rifle. Remove the plastic bottom of your clip - the side metal becomes the magazine box liner, the spring and follower drops into the blind magazine cut. Part #106130 simply holds the liner in place..

Then again, yours might be a staggered feed, and for some reason I think it is.
