Marlin

My Marlington 336W has the REM stamp on the right / starboard side of the barrel. But it appears my receiver is not an Illion mfg. Looks to me that my 336W was assembled in NY, but all the parts were made in the Marlin plant. :D

Either way, my 336W works well and I cannot identify any QC issues. No complaints from this wannabe lever gun hunter. :)

Putting all those gears in there to operate the lever is true waste of time especially if you miss or need a second shot. I agree with part of your assessment of the BLR, Jake. I could never imagine in my wildest dreams any harm coming to the action of my BLR no matter how fast or hard I cycle it. This is one slick, solid, over-built action made to last IMO. As to it not being a 'true' lever action, well, there you are correct. It's the quintessential 'bolt action' in a lever design. The triple lug rotating bolt head is the strongest 'lever' design out there, hence it's ability to easily handle the modern magnum cartridges. IMO :)
 
At least with Marlin, it is real easy to distinguish the known quality rifles from those marked Marlin that may be of satisfactory quality.
Just look for the little bulls eye in the butt stock.

They still put the bulls eye in the butt stock, if your saying that they removed it. My 39A is missing the bulls eye but was quickly replaced in the guns made after that after numerous complaints from the Marlin faithful. Mine is part of the last ones built before the move to N.Y.
 
My new SBL has no issues!!
Ordered just before xmas, has JM stamp, No extra dovetail on mag tube,serial starts w/93 thus stating 2009 man.
Very happy with it, no complaints what so ever!!
Glad I got one before it was too late!!:D

I just got a call that my 1895 SBL is in at WSS. Now I'm worried what it's doing to be like. Will report on my initial thoughts on fit, finish and useability once I get home to get it.

I was loosing sleep over that Winchester....... Finally i just had too buy it.:D
 
I bought my SBL at this time last year, the serial # starts with 92 and the barrel has the 'JM' stamp. Fit and finish on my rifle is very, very good; it cycles/feeds/ejects flawlessly. I got to pick from 4 in stock at WSS, this one was of course the nicest! It has become one of my favourite rifles:D
