some people have enough land where they're legally shooting their long guns without worry of legal problems. can hand guns be fired on private property aswell? assuming I had enough land to do so would I be able to shoot my handgun on it?
No you cannot, unless the following applies to you
restricted firearms can only be discharged at an approved CFO range
Wrong
you can discharge your restricted firearms where ever it is legal to discharge a non-restricted firearm.
HOWEVER you need an ATT to take your restricted firearms out of your house (residence) and it must be locked up for transport to where your ATT stipulates.
Now the CFOs will only give you ATTs to go to ranges that they have authorized, and gunsmiths... etc...
So IF you could get the CFO to give you an ATT to go from your house to your back yard for shootign then your good to go![]()
This is why ATTs are such a pain and the requirement to get them only serves to limit where you can shoot.

wow the gov is clearly f**ked up much worse than i originally thought they were. needing an att to bring the gun into the back yard. f**k me i hope if someone ever breaks into my house and i get to my handgun they dont leave the house cause i cant legally chase them with the gun in my hand, lol.
So, if you build a range on your property, with the firing point inside the house (e.g. right by a window)...
If they're fleeing you would be in some deep water if you used any kind of force here in Banada especially if you used a firearm. You can only use equal force if your home is invaded.
no not wrong![]()
before ATTs we could shoot on the farm
its only the narrow interpretation that the CFOs have taken that stop us from shooting our restricted firearms where it is legal to shoot our non-restricteds
think about it, there are not 2 different laws on where it is legal to discharge firearms, so if its legal to discharge one type of firearm then its legal to discharge all types of firearms
so what stops you from shooting your restricted on the farm where you shoot your rifles.???
Its the requirement to get an ATT and the conditions of your ATT, you have to have your firearm locked in a case and trigger locked from the time you leave your house (note house not your property or your address) to the time you get to where your ATT says you are allowed to go.
this topic has been hashed out here many times.
and no your deck is not your house and your garage is only part of your house if its attached or tehre is a covered walkway to your garage.![]()

trust me if someone breaks in and im chasing them with a gun they wont get away. little s**ts are gonna steal what i worked hard for, like f**k. if anything he may take one in the leg or ass or maybe a few into the ground warning shots to make him s**t his panties a little.![]()
You can discharge restricted only at an approved range.
What do I need to get range approval for my property?
I am willing to bet you would be in a world of legal hurt both in Canada and in a good number of places in the US. Brandishing a firearm in some States in the US is about as bad as firing a warning shot.
Your ability to own guns not mine...just saying.
Take Care
