Sorry Mr. Bubba, I know you tried your best to make a real cool lookin shootin stick, but I like em better the way they were.

I finally got all the long branch bits together to de-sportise my 1945 long branch. It is un-FTR'd with it's original '45 stamped barrel with an excellent shiney bore. I cleaned the replacement wood and put a couple of coats of BLO on it. The wood is a bit beat up, but that’s ok.

One part I was wondering about was the middle band. It's LB marked but looks cast and is heavier with a more convex shape. I'm more used to seeing the flat type. Is this an earlier version or just a supplier variation?

Explanation. I felt that my previous comments would create a reaction from a certain gun nut. Mission accomplished! To clarify, I have not and would not bubba a decent historical firearm. A rifle in very bad condition or previously bubba'ed may get a little fine tuning. What I do know is that I would never hold someones decision to do what they want with thier own property, against them.

Nice work! Funny how the tide turns. There used to be all kinds of articles in gun mags about taking (place the model here) rifles and hacking them up into "sporters". Years ago, I "hacked" a nice CZ 8mm, the kind with the sort of semi winter trigger guard. Thankfully, I had bought two of them, and still have the one as an original. The other one has a butchered bolt to clear a scope and was rechambered to 8mm-06. The rifle has served me well, though, taking several whitetail over the years. I cringe every time I look at that rifle now.
