Sources for 7.62x54R Brass

I've finally decided to add 7.62x54R to the list of calibres that I reload. I've been able to find the dies, case trimmer, bullets, bullet molds (for cast) and load data, but who's carrying the brass? I'll be shooting jacketed only in my sniper repro, and probably cast in another rifle and carbine, so I'd like at least100 cases to start.

Any suggestions as to stocking dealers? (Tradeex seems to be out of x54R brass at the moment and I can't stomach buying that many complete cartridges just to eventually get the brass.

I was sure Hirsch Precision had some but they only list 7.62 x 53R (close enough? - jk)

You could always give'em a call and ask, they're quite pleasant to deal with... Other than Hirsch and TradeEx, I can't think of anything.

EDIT: I was kidding when I said "close enough", but apparently 53R can be used safely in a gun chambered in 54R. More to the point, I just read that Lapua doesn't distinguish between the two shells and produces brass that will fit both chambers. The brass at Hirsch's is Lapua, so you may want to go that route if all else fails.

I read somewhere that the case length spec was 53.5mm: the Finnish rounded down to 53 and the Russians rounded up to 54mm.
It's the same case though, and can be used in Finnish, Russian, or Soviet
satellite nation rifles equally as safe.

I've purchased both PRVI and S&B. They both shoot pretty good, the brass is reloadable, and the weights vary from 150 to 180 grain. Both sell locally for 20 - 25 bucks. There doesn't seem to be a lot of inventory in local stores, but there is some. When I travel I tend to find a few boxes here and there. Last time in Saskatoon I bought out everything the store had ( 15 boxes). With all the Russian Mosins and SVTs on the market, I suspect that some stores will begin to increase thier inventory. This hasn't happened yet, but when your store quickly sells out of a product every time, you want to increase supply. Milarm here in Edmonton is a block away from my office, I make regualr trips to look for such items.

I'll call Tradeex to see if they have any incoming brass, since I was planning to call them for an extractor for my M38 carbine and one or two other small items. If that doesn't work, I'll try some of the others that you've recommended.

I've got a half fired box of S&B, plus another old box of Norma ammo, but would prefer to relaod some rounds before I make it out to the range, rather than spend money on ammo that I'd have to shoot first. Similarly, Norma/Lapua brass can sure cost alot, so I'm hoping to find some Prvi or S&B brass before I go that route.

I keep my eyes open at the range, but not too much non corrosive Mosin brass shows up.

I'll still get surplus when I can for some of my rifles, but even when available at the current prices plus shipping, it's almost 50 cents a shot, so there's definitely some room for improvement there.
