semi magazine capacity restriction question

I've done a search and have come up with some answers, but not using a 3.5 inch.

So the gun is a Semi-Auto remington 1187 in 3.5 inch

As i understand, however am having issues finding anything more than opinion, the magazine restriction is based on the largest length shell that the gun is designed for.

Could a person put a magazine extention on the gun to lengthen the tube so that 5.9 rounds (3 round extender) of 3.5 fit? you can only get 5 rounds in the tube, and has it so that the spring would not be fully compressed when loaded.

This would allow 7 rounds of 2.75 in the tube.
 
Bingo. The question of functioning with the shorter ammo is another matter. As long as the tube won't accept a sixth round of the longest ammo the barrel is chambered for, you're legal.

Has there ever been a court case or RCMP ruling on this? I've heard this interpretation from internet lawyers a few times, but I refuse to be the test case.

When the law states that a magazine may contain 5 shells of the size the shotgun was designed for, it doesn't get any clearer than that. But monger on at will ...

This is very much in line with legally having 13 rounds in the same magazine designed to hold 10 rounds of 40 when used in a 9mm pistol. We've got RCMP letters for that ruling in case you wonder.
 
When the CFC do a transfer of a shotgun, the question they ask is, "What is the capacity of the shotgun of the longest shell the firearm is chambered for?"

So technically you chamber a 3.5 incher

Float a 3.5 incher

And charge the magazine with (7) 2 3/4 inch rounds

You'd have 26.25 inches of big black swinging shotgun ####.

How emasculating...

only time you'll get screwd over is if your caught using 13 9mm bullets in a mag, or over 5 shells in the mag.

Not at all. As easy said, we have a letter from the RCMP stating that a mag is legal as long as it fits only 10 of what it was designed for. If it will coincidentally fit and work with 13 in a different calibre, no problem.

Same thing with the 3.5" mag tube. If you can get the shotgun to work with Aguila minis, or anything else, have at it.

Just make sure you can't jam that 6th round in.
 
the magazine restriction is based on what that magazine is designed for, for example, a xd40 10 round magazine, which is legal in canada, will work perfectly in a xd9 when loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm...as long as the magazine is clearly marked that it is meant for 10 rounds of 40 caliber, and just happens to fit 13 9mm rounds, its fine...how do you think people get away with purchasing 10 round .223 mags for their AR platforms...because those mags are built for pistols and made to be 10 rounders, therefore legal to have and use in a rifle....its a grey area i hope stays clear as mud, and as long as people leave the issue alone, we can enjoy a bit more shooting and less reloading
 
So where does one aquire a shorter barrel for a 3.5 11-87 super mag?

Would it be possible to have a 18" 11-87P barrel (assuming i can lay my hands on one) reamed (if that is the correct term) to chamber 3.5" shells? I am not sure but i dont think it is legit to just have a shotgun barrel cut down...correct me if i am wrong.

Or am i being a liitle too cute with this loophole?

Thoughts?
 
You can legally cut your barrel to 18.5" I believe. I think the 3.5" barrels stay full size for a longer length at the chamber end than a 3" barrel.
