Beretta U22 Recall

I just found out my Beretta Neo is required to be sent in for a recall and I have no idea how this is accomplished. I've gone onto the BerettaUSA site and there are no dealer links to any Canadian distributors. I've entered my serial number and yes it is one of the ones that needs a repair.

Have any owners here gone through the procedure in Canada. Any help would be appreciated.

Be prepared for quite a wait. I was one of the first ones to send one in, which was back in October, and I'm still waiting. Yeah, the wait's been killing me, but I can't really blame Stoeger Canada. As I mentioned, Beretta USA has been stalling on sending the parts, first giving excuses that the BATF has to review the parts, then for the last 2 months or so promising Stoeger that they'd send the parts "next week", but never sending them. Stoeger's ready to do the work, but can't until they get the parts, so they've even offered to send the pistols back to any owners that request them back. Even though I'd love to have it back right now, I told them I'll continue to wait it out, since my range is inaccessable due to snow now anyways, and I figure having to send it in again would just complicate matters more.

Well Beretta will be in for a pretty good lawsuit if someone is not aware and gets injured or worse killed because of this issue. I think it's pretty negligent for a firearms company to not be expediting this repair.

I'll hang onto mine until then.

it's a phoney-baloney recall anyway- apparently it happened on one gun, and i've dealt with stoeger before, so i'm not prepared to wiat months on end while they sit around, have coffee, and wait for beretta usa to ship the part- the gist of it was the gun could still fire if the trigger was pulled AFTER the safety was applied- well, i tried it and there's NO WAY mine would do as they claimed- in other words, it's an EXERCISE IN FUTILITY- you MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS, but i'm not going to- besides, SAFE GUN HANDLING procedures circumvent this condition - ie finger off the trigger, empty mag, that sort of thing
besides, the neos is so simple you CAN replace the part yourself - they claim not, but it's a firing pin - i can a 1911 down to the frame, so this is no sweat

I just checked mine and it has been repaired. I got it recently. What is really stupid is that the website where you check the serial number is case sensitive. If your serial number begins with and "R" you must enter R12345, entering r12345 says "not found". This kind of precision is only needed when one enters passwords.

I also checked the firing pin against their picture and it is the new style. I know this because a few days ago I was polishing the edge of the pin (the part that was oval) because I feel it is too "sticky" when firing. I have a felling that the old pin was a lot smoother to fire, and the safety modification changed that, for the worse. I would like to try with the old pin.

Can you provide a source that it only happened on one gun? The recall notice I was sent stated "Beretta U.S.A. Corp. has discovered a potential condition with Beretta .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols in which the pistol will fire even if the safety is activated and, in some cases, the pistols may fire if the safety is moved from OFF to the ON position." By the sound of it, it's happened more than once, and in some cases the problem is worse than the safety simply not working.

I'm not trying to be smart, I'm just wondering if what you've heard is indeed the case.

I agree with this whole post. I am not sendig mine in (if ever) until after I see results from units sent in before.

2) it takes a SPECIAL set of circumstances to get the gun to do this
3) it was a RANGE GUN and a STUDENT that it happened to
the way the letter reads, and the way i nterpeted it was that the SAFETY IS APPLIED, then the TRIGGER IS PULLED, and then the round fires- it is NOT FIRED BY SIMPLY WIGGLING THE SAFETY
in other words, the safety isn't doing it's job-
3) a range gun and student- so WE DON'T KNOW how much WEAR there is on the gun, nor the handling of it- i can make any gun fire by holding the trigger back AS THE SAFETY COMES OFF-
beretta is simply cya b/c of lawsuits
i don't know about you, but when i put the safety on, my FINGER COMES OFF THE TRIGGER- i CERTAINLY don't hold it back
i DON'T charge my gun( any gun) until i'm at the firing line and READY TO FIRE, and if there is ANY malfuntion, i do the drop the mag , clear,and slide to the rear anyway- in other words I DON'T USE A SAFETY- on some guns such as the tokarev, THERE IS NO SAFETY- THE ONLY TIME I USE A SAFETY is if there's an IMMEDIATE need for firing, such as competition or combat- and then it won't be a NEOS

Thank you for this information. I have checked several American boards, and did not come across mention of this, hence my asking for clarification.

I do agree with you on the safe handling making it a non issue, and I see what you mean about how it would take a special set of circumstances to make the gun go off. Since I am already this far with it, I am going to see the recall through for mine. However, I now understand where you have been coming from with your posts.
