So the High Prairie gun show is coming up and i was thinking of getting a K98 to add to the collection. I know nothing of the caliber or the rifle so what i should i be looking for? other then a good finish.

Google and Wiki are your best bet for quick learning. Did you have a particular K98 in mind ? There are a number of different variants floating around, each with their own story to tell.

If you are on a budget, I highly recommend a Russian capture Kar98k. They are the real deal and have the history to prove it. They usually go between $400 and $500 depending on condition, maker, and year of make and perhaps any other interesting markings on the EE here on CGN. Gunshows prices, on the other hand, may be different.

Eagles peened and electro penciled East German referb eh ? I saw one just like it (Actually without the eagles peened and no electro pencil) for 275 at a gun shop a few yrs back. and oh yeah it was an RC as is this one I believe. as the recoil lug is flat on one side.

An RC for 750 me thinks

REALLY??? This must be one of the real deals. I guess the one I have that I bought 2 yrs ago for 400 with no electro penciling and non-peened Waffens, all matching (except stock and upper band) is worth $1500 then. Thanks for the info Desporterizer.

Hey, I didn't say it was worth $750 but I think $550 would be fair if the bore is mint, any cheaper & its a steal.
