Whats the closest you have stalked in on a game animal?I figure with all the can this cartidge or that shoot elk at 600yds, we would see how close some hunters have stalked in to game. My closest was 34 yds on a moose.

I've been in 20 yrds of moose and deer on occasions, but the closest was a black bear under 15 yrds.

What is "stalked in to game" exactly.

I have been withing 3 feet of deer a couple of times, but mostly by remaining still while they moved about. I wouldn't call that stalking. I once had to move to prevent being run over by a deer. I have called coyotes to less than 5 yards several times.

I have been within 20 yards of many deer that didn't yet know I was there, or at least had not figured out what I was.

With all the talk about long range shooting, my average on all big game animals would likely be close to 50 yards.

Stalking 10 yards on deer, 7 yards on a bear, 20 yards on a moose.

Random encounters, I was once knocked over by a mule doe right in my own back yard, I kicked bear in the ass outside of one of my compressor stations and one time I grabbed a ruff grouse out of the air when I was a kid.

I've killed two deer at about 5 yards that I stalked. Killed two others at almost touching distance that walked closer to me as I was stalking them. Was using a muzzle loader for three of them, it's interesting how equipment tends to influence how you hunt. If I'm not using a long range rig, I slow down and pay more attention. I prefer to hunt by stalking close rather than using long range gear and shooting at distant animals.

I had a 5x5 elk at 16 yards in a 6x6 zone. Nomatter how many times I counted his points, he still only had 5. I've had deer directly below me in a stand, maybe 6 feet below my boots. Makes your heart pound.

10 point buck at 15 yards. He is going to hanging on my wall downstairs once I get the mount back. If you archery hunt you have to be close to kill a deer. Teaches you how to be a better hunter because you have to be close.

Stalked a buck and a doe while feeding during muzzleloader - was 30 feet away when I shot. But I only got that close because 1. deer are less spooky during muzzleloader, 2. they were busy nibbling on moss, 3. wind was in my favour, 4. I moved real slow.

I've been closer though when still hunting.

Slapped a cow moose on the nose once......she walked right up to me when I was sitting in a willow patch glassing a shoreline, she had no idea I was there, I'm sure she'd have stepped right over me had I let her :)

Wasn't really my "stalk" but close enough anyways;)

One day at work we spotted a caribou lying in the opposite end of a dry pond from us, so I got out the passenger door to see how close I could sneak up on it. I slithered along on my belly, taking my time, and 20 minutes later I was close enough to kill it with a knife. Another time I was lying on the side of a knoll and a small herd or caribou fed right up to my boot. One summer day we were walking along an esker with the wind on our backs yet, and this dopy caribou came walking towards us with his head down and would have bumped into us if I hadn't spoken softly. That dummy is lucky Shadow wasn't a wolf. Polar bears don't have to be snuck up on, often they are quite willing to close the distance. When that distance closes to arms length, that gets your heart going.

I walked up to a young moose in my parents yard as a teenager. It was bedding in the shelter belt for a couple days, and when it showed itself on the lawn I decided to see how close I could get. I stood around, and every so often I'd take a step closer. Took a while, but I got within 3 feet. It's head was taller than me(I was 6 feet), and I decided not to touch it, since I was right in front of it's face and would get stampeded if it spooked! It was young, but even a young moose is large! I took some pictures(film camera) and that was it. Deer hunting I've been close enough to bambi's to touch them if I wanted to.

During shotgun season for deer on public land in southern ontario. I stalked within 30 feet of a whitetail doe. It was cold and about 3 feet of snow on the ground after a big storm. As I rounded the corner of a small hardwoods bush she was feeding in the field next to the bush. Wearing blaze orange I thought this will be a lost cause standing in an open field with nothing but snow as a backdrop, but thought what the heck nothing to lose when antlers are the only thing on the menu. As she fed she stuck he whole head under the snow, i would walk closer. She'd look up and i'd freeze. Did this for 5 minutes and got within 10 yards before she had enough and took off.

I had a Roe Doe at zero distance, I had fallen asleep in a high seat and awoke to find it grazing underneath the ladder. I leaned over the side, looked down the barrel and popper her in the freezer! Not the classiest of instances but I try and get to within 100 yards. A lot of my ground is coppice so thickly growing thin chestnut and birch. It makes for tricky shooting!

I've stalked within 15yd of an 8pnt buck with 2 does in front of him. I snapped a twig under the pine needles, I stopped in my tracks, he snorted and looked right me. I didn't move, I only blinked, he put his head down and took off with his ladies. . . I learned to put camo paint on my eyelids that day

I walked up to under 5 yards from a doe last fall twice. Once while upland hunting, once during moose season.

She for whatever reason lacked a "flight" instinct. We had a stare down both times. The 2nd time I stopped at 3-4 meters, waived my arms and shouted and she still would not run. I eventually left her alone.

While hunting, ive got to within 10m of deer that I didnt know were there. I only knew were there when they busted.

Purposely stalked? Ive never. Its just not the way we hunt here. Its lucky when I can see more then 100 yards, so I dont have to bother stalking even hunting with an unscoped 3030.
