Got a brand new 10 bas here. Will not extract snap caps, leaves it on top of the mag...I send the rifle back for an exchange, get the new rifle, same problem. I phone Savage saying it won't extract. They send me a new extractor, ball, and spring. I install it. Guess what? Same problem. WTF?????

So it won't chamber? Won't pick up a round off the top of the mag when the action is cycled? Thats not an extraxtion problem!!

It chambers just fine, when you pull the bolt out the "empty" or snap cap in this case gets ejected but not out of the rifle, just pulls out on top of the mag.
 
The problem is not the extractor, it's the ejector ( the little plunger on the end of the bolt ). It should be sticking out an eighth of an inch or so. Try pushing it in with your finger to see if there is any spring action. If not, it is either jammed or the spring needs replacing.
 
but this is now a different gun. Different bolt. Different ejector. What are the odds of the same issue with two diff guns 5000 serial# apart?

As mentionned, you are reporting an ejection problem, not an extraction problem. When the rifle you sent back was checked out, they were probably scratching their heads over a reported extraction problem.
Will it extract and eject a case which has been fired in the rifle?
If you remove the bolt, hook a case under the extractor, and pivot it against the ejector, is the ejector springy? Will it flip the case off the boltface when you release it?
 
it will flip it, the ejector is springy. I have not fired the rifle as if i fire it I can't return it. My other 308 has no issues ejecting these snap caps.

Are you drawing the bolt back forcefully enough to kick the case/snap cap free? try dropping a spent case down the tube close the bolt on it and open your action vigorously, should clear easily. Why are you using snap caps on a centerfire rifle anyway??
 
The extractor, ball and spring fix worked for my 223 and others I have spoken to. I wonder if its something to do with the dimensions of your snap caps. Try some brass. I don't think you need worry about shooting your rifle. This is not an insurmountable problem which would require returning your rifle. But it is your money so your decision.
 
Aren't you the guy who went on the Tac21 thread and was raving how great your rifle was in comparision to "the other guys gun" a week or two ago? Karma's a ##### ain't it?!:p
 
Ive tried doing it faster. Same result. As soon as I mount the scope on it I will go and try it with live rounds, dont want to be like the other idiot in calgary who shot up the neighborhood lol.

Spent casing idea not so good. Almost got it stuck there for good lol. But it did eject when i whacked it with the cleaning rod from the other end of the barrel lol.
