I purchased an Auto-Bolt release from RimfireSports&Custom stripped my SR down (which is pretty involved btw) installed new release and nothing! its no different from the factory release??

So I surfed the web a bit and found some pix of a customized bolt release, and proceeded to grinded out my factory release to match what I was seeing, and no go with that one either.

Any tips, tricks, suggestions or ideas out here in CGN Land? I'm also open to buying another one that will work properly if any plinkers have it and can point me in right direction to a Canuck supplier.

Very interested in your dilemma as I have a VQ auto bolt release coming from RimfireSports. Just to clarify, with the new auto bolt release you push back on it with the charging handle pulled all the way to the rear to lock the bolt back just as the factory one, and then to release the bolt you just tug back a bit on the charging handle and let go, correct? That does not work for you?

Yes Mambo that is correct. Are you sure you put the trigger assembly togethor properly? That one spring has to be putting pressure on the auto bolt release for it to actually work.

auto bolt release is a very easy install, when bolt is locked back, just apply a slight bit of rearward pressure to close it. mine came from rimfire sports and works flawlessly. are you certain that you installed it correctly ?

just follow the instructions that came with the part. Make sure the spring is over the tang that sticks out from the bottom of the release and you should be fine.

Thanks for all the input!
Im 99.9% sure that i installed it correctly as it locks open, and still releases the same as factory. and NO i didnt mix the 2 up! (lol) I even took it a part after I found it not working right, lubed and re-installed. I remember chatting with another member of CGN and he warned me that the RinfireSports autobolt release was no different than the Ruger factory, but it was too late as mine was already ordered.

Can all you guys with the same one ordered post your results here, in case i did miss something?

Man! I really wanted to push the button and watch the bolt slide forward - disappointing..

mine was from rimfire and it is definitely different. you can see the little bit that is missing..pretty much the same as if you grind it off yourself. I did find that it got a little stiff sometimes but if i touched the little locking piece it would work. I think it is because i didn't lube everything up when i had it apart? basically the way it works is you push the locking piece to lock it open. pull the bolt back and let go to close it. you don't do anything with the "button" anymore to close it.

You can't "push" the button and the bolt slams forward, all the auto bolt release does is let you pull the bolt back and let it let it slam forward without also having to hold in the button.

You don't have to "push" the button once it is installed properly. Just pull back on the charging handle and let it go, it will slam forward on it's own.

Yeah, I have bought a few of them from rimfire sports, never a problem. Hopefully the OP uses it correctly as you stated.

Thanks everybody...
i went over it again and its still operating same as factory - WTF??
I'm gonna leave it and order one from somewhere else, maybe mine from rimfire isnt grinded out wide enough?

How exactly are you trying to operate the gun?

My thoughts too...

Yeah to the OP, we need more detailed info on your exact steps of operation. Doesn't make too much sense that a gozillion of these auto bolt releases work and yours doesn't? Don't go and buy another one yet! I have a feeling that would be a waste of money...

Hey guys thanks!
Mambo thanks for the encouragement...Its all much appreciated!! And for the record I'm far from the most mechanical type of person, which is probably clear in my posts..

So I'm up and running, but its with a bastardized version of my factory bolt release. I gently grinded it out until it worked properly (as per Ruger 10/22 Help site). So its now locking the bolt open and cranking back the charging handle releases/readies the bolt without pressing the release. Now this is where it gets interesting. As I was grinding and re-installing/unstalling I found that if I slightly tilted the gun so the ejection port faced upwards and pushed up and hard on the bolt release the action would engage without touching the charging handle, but its not consistent - weird, eh?

Originally I thought that was what I would get from the Rimfire autobolt release. I wonder if there is a mod where you can just press the bolt release and it engages/readies the bolt without cranking back on the charging handle?

Any thought? Anybody seen or heard of this?
