.22LR vs .22WMR accuracy

I'm looking at getting either a Savage MkII F or a 93 F. Same rifle from what I can tell except that the 93 F is chambered for WMR.

Can I expect similar accuracy from either rifle (with comparable quality ammo) or is it true that WMR is simply less accurate than .22LR?

Thanks!

They even use the same receiver and bolt-rear now. Only difference is magazine metal, bolt face and chambering.

The crux of your question lies here:
"with comparable quality ammo"

Hard to find 22WMR in the same quality as high quality 22LR ammo. Most of it is no better than standard 22LR fare.

If you want precision, try a 17HMR or Mach II

I want the heavier weight of the .22; I don't want to go with a .17 as I'd like to be able to use this rifle on coyotes.

Let's forget about match ammo. I can shoot sub 2MOA with bulk pack ammo out of my 10/22, and really close to 1MOA with good stuff. If I could stay between 1 and 2MOA with the 93 F, I'd be happy.

What do you think?

Anyone with actual experience shooting a WMR, please chime in!

There is almost zero chance the .22 WMR will equal the accuracy of the .22 LR. The reason has nothing to do with the gun. The issue is ammunition. You can buy very high end target ammo for the .22 LR (Eley, Lapua, RWS), and about all that is available for the WMR is hunting accuracy high speed stuff. Accurate .22 rimfire lead bullet ammo needs to be subsonic.

Yah, that's one of the big things I've noticed when using Eley ammo, it's all subsonic. Man, is that stuff ever great though.

come on guys my old marlin 22 wm shoots CCI maxi mags in to a dime at 100 meters all day and she will keep them in a three inch group at 200 yards how may 22 long rifles can do that buy the right ammo for your gun and go shoot it that is the only way to find out my does not like winchester Dynapoints at all DUTCH

Every 22 Magnum I've had would do that or close enough anyways...had one Marlin 925? it shot really well......with no wind you could cover the 100m group with a toonie;)

This current one I just aquired(a Henry 22mag) seems to be a good shooter.....still playing with various ammo but it puts some ancient Win 40gr HP's (I know they are old cause the price tag on the box says... Simpsons Sears $4.99:p)
inside of 2"s no prob, might even do better with some updated ammunition :)

from my experience you should be getting 2MOA from 22WMR all day every day. Some better ammo may bring it closer to 1MOA. Look for 50gr ammo from Federal, it'll be good for coyotes and it is very accurate ammo in general.

the next-gen WMR ammo brings a whole new level of accuracy to the WMR. The popularity of the HMR has renewed interest in the WMR, I think, and the various poly-tipped WMR rounds have excellent accuracy. CCI loads the VMAX, as do Hornady and Remington.

100 yard accuracy is quite a bit better than 22lr - less flight time and more aerodynamic bullets mean less effect from the wind. More than good enough to take the head off a gopher.
