Importing an LRB receiver.

LRB actually has pretty much the exact rifle I want on their webpage, has anyone ever tried to import a complete rifle? I'll settle for a receiver and have a great rifle made, but if I can get the one I want right now, why not?

I thought the mount was built into the receiver but it appears to be screwed into it? Also, whats the deal with the rear lug?(what does it do). Nice site, nice stuff ... too bad it's all in the US ... unless somebody's got word that we can import these M25 receivers?

The SHOT show rifles are actually available. Otherwise you have to be on their waitlist many months to get one built for you. Waitlist is free, no commitment, just call and give your name for a build.
According to Prophet River, what you want to avoid is flash-hider, collapsable stock and a barrel marked 7,62x51 or 7,62NATO.
Without these things, you should import a rifle as easily as a receiver.

Now if you're not in a hurry, you can wait for GIwolf to receive his receiver in a few weeks. The test here is the 7,62 receiver marking vs ITAR rules on military calibers.
If you want a ShotShow rifle before it sells, try it and keep us updated. LRB said they will give full refund if they get the rifle back for legal reasons.

Yes, the dovetail are machined integraly in the forged receiver. The rail is screwed so you can change a worn rail or switch to the optional extended rail.

A rear lug is to increase the recoil surface, so your glass bedding last longer. In a non-bedded rifle, it's just extra weight. It also won't fit a Sage and other special stocks and you can't remove it.
Rear lug are also offered in the most expensives M1A. Early rear lugs were welded on USGI receivers for competition rifles but it's no good.

Now that is one hell of a good bit of information to hear. I will send them an email in the morning and inquire further.

M25

I thought I'd share... :D
I just got this for Christmas, haven't shot it; planning to do it this weekend at PoCo.

I don't know what the stamp on the barrel, I'll find out this weekend at the range. But the receiver is definitely stamped 7.62MM and not .308Win.

I got it in a barrelled action #3 configuration from LRB; didn't want to pay the state tax for a full rifle, but also don't want to have it worked on locally either. I got the trigger group separately, not from LRB, since the tax would apply if I get it from them.

I imported it myself, and paid an FFL_dealer/exporter in the US. Paid an extra $50 for them to meet me at the border.

I have an import license from long ago when I brought in teak furnitures from SE Asia; so import application was no big deal. I don't know what you'd have to do to get that license now.

You can use Hurricane Butterflies out of Seattle, Wa to export.

The "clincher" for me at the time was: How do I get the permit to export if I haven't ordered/bought the rifle? Yet, I don't want to order/buy a rifle if I can't get it out of the US.

So, I forwarded the application without an S/N; it was approved 2 weeks later. So I ordered one from LRB. It took 10 months to complete my order, almost at the end of my export permit period (when approved you have about 12 months to get the item out of the country).

Specs:
M25 Rear Lug Receiver.
Krieger 22" SS HEAVY BARREL 1:10 TWIST.
TRW Bolt (new in wrap).
USGI op rod.
NM modifeid flash suppressor with bayo lug.
NM front & rear sight (front sight is going to be replaced by SEI Tritium sight).
NM unitized gas cylinder.
Titanium Piston.
NM Spring Guide (Badger Ordnance replacement is on the way).
TRW Trigger assy, polished to NM specs from raparts.com (I think it was). -- Separate Purchase
Boyd's Walnut Stock. -- Separate Purchase

Congratulations!

Can you share who's your FFLdealer/exporter?
Can you tell us the detailed cost, beside buying from LRB and Canada's sales tax at the border?
What are the involved procedures and forms?

These are boring questions! For the fun part, would you share your build specs?

Well, I bought one, and it just arrived in Canada this week.

I didn't want to say anything until it came it, but I got Questar to bring it in for me and they were very helpful to deal with. Went with a complete rifle, as opposed to the receiver. Will try to post pictures when it comes in.

However, for the time being, here is the picture from LRBs website:

And the features, shamelessly copied and pasted:

M14SA RECEIVER. CRITERION 22" STANDARD WEIGHT BARREL CHROME LINED 1:12 TWIST. TRW BOLT. NM MODIFIED FLASH HIDER. USGI OP ROD. VENTED HAND GUARD. STOCK-USGI WALNUT.

As you can see, I really want the early 60s look!

Questar brought mine in as well and they were SUPER helpfull. Yes you do pay a premium with them but the service makes it worth it. Nice stick Matthew...you'll love it!

I agree, they were helpful and forthright. I can't wait, I just have to wait for the summer to fire her.

Would either of you fellas, Matthew or Oldsmobiler, be willing to divulge what it cost all said and done for importing fees to have your rifles brought in? Thanks

Certainly.

Rifle: 2773.74 with shipping
Questar: 786.45
Costs at border: 207.23
Total: 3767.42

Yes, admittedly that is a whole lot of money. Infact, it is 8.7 Norinco M14s from Marstar. However, I did want something very specific, and I wanted to be able to travel to the USA with the rifle.

Questar also made it a very painless process, and like I said, were fairly helpful. The rifle I ordered was pre-assembled, for shot-show, if I remember correctly, but they will make you anything you want.

For me:

M25 receiver - $1000 (from the M14 forum)
Questar - $750
Taxes and shipping - $250

The only painful part was paying the fee and taxes. However I had a bad experience with an ARMS18 go loose at a match so I wanted the LRB M25 NOW!

I love my rifle :D

BTW if any of you guys do end up getting the M25 up here I have a jig that will center the scope rail to the centerline of the barrel. The scope rail has some windage adjustment so you can have a problem centering the scope.

I'm green with envy and can easily understand why you would pay extra for this rifle. I'm tempted to sell my two M1A standards and do the same thing. One question and forgive me if you already addressed it, did you get a chrome lined barrel?

Greg

Yes, I did get the chrome lined barrel.

I asked for a 22" standard barrel not chrome-lined, expecting a little extra accuracy, but they said they only carry chrome-lined in standard contour.
